Palestine films coming to Oxford

Film screenings in Oxford.

ALL BOOKINGS THROUGH THE PHOENIX PICTURE HOUSE - DETAILS BELOW

Each evening will begin with a film screening: we have selected three of the most perceptive and engaging films on life for Palestinians. In the second part of each evening, there will be a question and answer session with representatives from three voluntary organisations that are associated with the contexts depicted in the films: the International Solidarity Movement; Palestine Solidarity Campaign and UniPal. Two of the film directors, Omar Al-Qattan and Leila Sansour, are also able to join us.

JEREMY HARDY VERSUS THE ISRAELI ARMY. (75 mins) - Dir: Leila Sansour

A feature documentary about the International Solidarity Movement in Palestine as experienced through the eyes of British comedian Jeremy Hardy. At the Sunday screening there will be a Q&A with the Director and at the Monday screening there will be a Q&A with a panel of recently returned ISM activists.

TALE OF THE THREE JEWELS (107 mins)- Michel Khleifi

"Michel Khleifi's film is a glimmering parable about the meaning of life, about beauty and freedom and about the three borders that govern our destiny: time, space and flesh ...a jewel" Independent on Sunday Q&A with producer Omar Al-Qattan and with UniPal representative on summer programmes in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.

DIARY OF AN ARTS EXHIBITION (17 mins) - Dir. Omar

Al-Qattan In autumn of 2002, young Palestinian artists gather in Ramallah to present their work in an exhibition for an Arts Competition. The film recounts the events surrounding the exhibition and explores some aspects of art's relationship with resistance, politics and violence.

FORD TRANSIT (80 mins) - Dir.Hany Abu-Assad

An often-humorous portrait of the day-to-day reality of a Palestinian taxi driver caught between checkpoints and political discussions. Q&A with Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
