Judith Albrecht's film Saalam Berlin portrays the story of three Iranian asylum seekers in Berlin. Ali Zadahrabi (engineer), Reza Shibani (hospital manager)and Danial Muzarmi (student) have been living in an asylum seeker's homefor two years. The film follows the path of these three men and shows how each of them deals with the situation of exile differently. It asks what it means to live a life between escape and a residence permit, painting a moving picture of the three Iranian's personal views of Berlin.
Judith Albrecht is a Social Anthropologist and lives in Berlin. She has been a professional ethnographic filmmaker for several years. For her first film 'Mayo Wako' Lay down Your Heart', she won a prize at the Berlin EthnoFilmFest.
In her films, Albrecht not only combines academic and artistic skills of ethnographic filmmaking, but she also represents the participants' political claims.
