To meet government climate change targets houses will need to use 60% less energy by 2050. How does government policy need to change to achieve this target and what role will individual householders play? Come to the talk and learn about the practical steps you can take straight away.
Gavin Killip from the University of Oxford Environmental Change Institute presents the research of the 40% House Project on the combination of rebuilding and new technologies that will transform Britain's homes.
Local pioneers will present the practical steps they took to achieve this target in their own houses. This is an excellent chance to meet and learn from people who have already taken the measures we all need to take for a low carbon future.
Elise Benjamin - solar conservatory, solar hot water, a windmill and external insulation for a 1900 east oxford house
Mark Luntley - re-insulating and fitting solar in a mid 1980's house.
George Marshall- insulation and efficiency measures in a of a 1930's house that reduced gas and electric consumption by 60%.
Chris Goodall- installing (and living with) a solar and photovoltaic roof on a modern house
Sally Harper - using eco-materials (wool, oak and hemp) and solar in a conservation area rural renovation
David Hammond- using solar power and heat pumped from the Thames in a 19th century house.
Sue Roaf- award winning low energy and solar powered new build house in North Oxford
