REMEMBER, WE THE PEOPLE are the troops too. . . . REMEMBER THE NEWS

What speeds up ends of the war in iraq when last months usa demo in washington receives so much less publicity here in the UK in comparison to the gung ho "next-war-in-the-middle-east-please" warbucks puppet at his fringe meeting at the tory conference who i heard interviews with on TWO national radio channels. . . . without a single question about burma asked. . . . WE, THE PEOPLE - TROOPS TOO - NEED TO TAKE BACK THE MEDIA - to challenge all newspapers across the political spectrum to COVER THE NEWS, to CHECK for the effects of warbux / opinion-influencer cover-ups - (sometimes "against interventions" eg re burma!) or thats the hole democracy gets flushed down, despite loads of people getting told thats what they are dying for.

IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS JOURNALIST OR RESEARCHER see also
"iraq war reports troop news" piece, here, a few days ago, keep in mind the fact that the opinion-influencers are trying to caricature the next political phaase with the same "them against us" spin that saw the rise of the "nazis" - ie "it was the other lot that lost the war" - then ask yourself if that USA march piece is so much less news in comparison to those easy-to-predict "clash-of-culture" talktime from a person that wasnt introduced as "the person that was the USAs Ambassador to the UN only due to the fact that his appointment was "loopholed" through congress WITHOUT A VOTE when it WASNT SITTING. . . . then sacked when it was going to get around to a vote about him.

The lack of mainstream news cover for a succesful UK london demo when sheer numbers of people that STOOD UP DESPITE THE PROHIBITION AGAINST A MARCH "legalised it" - see reports - uk indymedia - this week - but, seeing as there wasnt a "ruck" when people might have shown pictures of a few "diehard" types bounce off a police line - or bust through it - the requisite caricatures werent there, so national coverage for it went "disparu" too.

This "niche" media of "uk indymedia" is a total distraction UNLESS it functions as a place that is a "bounceback" to kick the news OUT of the margins BACK INTO THE MAINSTREAM . . . . I think it IS POSSIBLE FOR IT TO DO THIS.

But to act as a SERIOUS intervention, that MIGHT mean journalists of ALL papers having to get judged by mass circulation "freesheets" that dont have to wave "radical" jargon at people - but INCLUDE those critiques.
The dodgy radical types such as the Archbishop ( C of E ) might appreciate getting coverage for their actual pronouncements in THEIR priorities - as much as the good HONEST critical coverage of atheists that aint trying to oppose their mutual interests in peace, a world without starvation, etc by "bigging up the splits".

Some of us remember the launch of schnews, undercurrents, etc.
It was possible, then, for UNDOCTRINAIRE radicals of a variety of opinions to break moulds . . . . looking back, the key things they were saying ARE IN A LOT OF WAYS accepted as mainstream. Global climate turbulence - the entire political spectrum agrees except for a few slushfund-opinion influenced "flat-earthers" - ditto opposition to the iraq war - - - -

As a bit of the "remember each eleventh" campaign - see past posts - what about looking at the success of the above, with the style/pzazz of those "one day" "fake paper"-papers of a few years back, to think about a few unusual, serious-populist week by week "free-paper" mass-runs, with input from "radicals" but also the "quiet" support of serious journalists that blow the inside-the-papers news, too, that isnt afraid to "sell out" in as much as the "worthy" tomes loads of us love, but might mention them with the respect they actually DO deserve for the news they often break, or cover, when other "serious" papers are asleep-at-the-wheel.

Plenty of "dont do it this way" background is good - news-on-sunday, etc, but - too - this might allow certain people that WERE tasked with screwing up "radical paper" types to offer amends, if this paper didnt try to pretend there were never ever conspiracies ever, but didnt try to pretend thats all the world was about.

Thoughts for the weeks "eleventh" campaign. . . . more information in a couple of days, post CND conference etc.
Input or reflections much appreciated. . . .
( ps - this isnt a set-up - there is a serious open debate about this - it could function as a "signpost" to other media, webtv etc - but also blow whistles in a serious, informed, "what the papers say" style - each few weeks - or each week - but, say, using the underground station/freesheet distro - but with the odd "music" interview or free cd - rom, with 'tunes, but info too . . . . but trying to keep the "liberals", the pragmatists, - the "free-thinking tory-types" on board too -( so there) . . . . this is to break OUT of caricatures, out of "margins" - if other things of this sort appear - then good. Its the mould that needs breaking - people that dont need to "create reputations", but perhaps wonder if they mightnt seem to have this seasons "radical" T-shirt - this IS to you too. cheers )
