Call for short film submissions for Edinburgh Fringe

Angela Pfenninger | 05.04.2004 15:35 | Culture | Indymedia | London

Cowgate Central are looking for interesting short films to show at the Fringe on the big screen. Submissions from all genres are welcome, I attach a form for folk who are interested. Get your work seen at the largest arts fest in the world! Deadline 15 May, and we'll need a copy of the work submitted (watchable on VHS or a computer).

We at Cowgate Central have a cinema in the Vue comlex in central Edinburgh that we can programme for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer. We have the screen Mon-Thurs nights from 5.30-8.15pm and want to have a good rotation of film submissions in there. Our aim as a year round venue is very much focussed on working with young people and providing access to the arts for them, as well as promoting a social agenda, so I think it would link in brilliantly with your objectives.

The screen size will vary on demand (between 70 and 170) and films will be listed in our venue brochure, as well as the Vue cinema leaflets and email newsletter to their 4,000 subscribers. We will list the film event in the Fringe brochure, but will not be able to mention any individual titles due to copy constraints.

Submission deal for a one-off screening is as follows: we categorise by film length in 15-min/£5 steps.

£10 - for under 30min
£15 - 31-45min
£20 - 46min - 1h
£30 - 1h - 1h 15min
etc in 15min steps.

We operate a box office split of 60/40 of our takings in the film makers' favour. The takings will be split on a nightly basis by number of submissions, reflecting length of submission (ie a 1hr film that equals 40% of the evening's submissions will get more box office than a 3 min skit).

Vue can accept pretty much any format of film (VHS,8mm, Digital), with a preference for DVD/CD (whatever's compatible with PC will do nicely). they provide the projectionist and other staff.
Submissions will have to get back here to ourselves by 15 May, outlining the following:

1. contact details of film maker
2. Title and length of film
3. category (comedy, mock advert, whatever you feel describes it)
4. brief summary of film (no more than 30 words, to go in brochure)
5. number of screenings you want to book
6. total amount due
7. format of submission
8. preferred week of showing (Fringe runs 8-30 Aug, showings Mon9-thur12, Mon16-thur19, Mon23-thur26, Mon30th Aug)
9. would you be interested in hosting a pre- or post show discussion, were we to schedule these?

Feel free to get back to us with any questions you may have. I think it'd be a grand showcase to get your work seen during the largest arts fest in the world, with a good media presence. We look forward to seeing your work.
