Unofficial reporter | 09.06.2004 08:14 | Anti-militarism | Iraq

BAE systems at Crewe Toll, Edinburgh is being blockaded by members and visitors of Faslane Peace Camp. All gates have been blockaded since before 7am this morning by about a dozen people. There are banners and leafleting outside BAE systems, reminding workers and passers-by of their awful humanitarian record in arms selling.

Some of BAE's corruption has been exposed recently with reports of their illegal slush fund to bribe their way in selling arms. Even without this, their record of manufacturing weapons using radioactive depleted uranium (DU), and selling to regions with poor human rights or great civilian suffering makes them one of the worlds worst corporations.

This is an action arranged during the camp's BIRTHDAY WEEK which ends this weekend in a party with EIGHT bands/sound systems!! Come along!! Phone 01436 820901.  http://www.faslanepeacecamp.org.uk/

More info will be sent out from Faslane Peace Camp later today.

EXPORTS
BAE Systems has export markets across the world. Its Hawk jets alone have been sold to Brunei, Indonesia, Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, UAE and Zimbabwe. In the past year there has been angry reaction to the use of its Hawks in Aceh, to the sale of head-up displays for US-built F16s destined for Israel, and to the marketing of arms to India in the midst of conflict over Kashmir. It has also been the subject of allegations of bribery regarding deals with the Czech Republic, India and South Africa, and of UN allegations of sanctions busting to arm Zimbabwe. BAE Systems has denied both bribery and sanctions-busting allegations.
