Sea-action at Faslane Fair

Peace Pirate | 17.06.2006 14:49 | Anti-militarism

Sea Action and Helensburgh CND protested at the Faslane Fair at Helensburgh, near Faslane.

Every year the MoD take over the car park at Helensburgh with a celebration of the war machine and the culture of war.

Tours of war ships along with fake battles with marines dropping from helicopters and Paratroopers dropping from planes above are what the MoD want people to watch for a good time.

Peace groups in the area protest every year at this complete waste of money and the brainwashing of children that takes place. Children are painted with war paint and allowed to play with military equipment. They are never shown the real horrors of war. Children in Iraq have little about the military to celebrate.

Protestors in a boat travelled around the pier waiving a peace flag, and were generally well received. There was a CND stall with information along with a leaflet explaining the real costs of nuclear deterrence. Posters were fly-posted the night before around the town, regardless of the massive police presence due to so many drunk sailors in town (including V-division from Glasgow).
