Smash EDO Camp still resisting and actions will continue!

dismantle the war machine | 28.08.2007 16:54 | Anti-militarism | Repression | Terror War | London | South Coast

17:30 update

Sussex police have taken all the tents including the large marquee.

Someone locked onto the pole of the marquee confused around 50 police for a good hour. Eventually they had to lock-off because police were talking about dismantling the marquee, which would have been extremely dangerous for the locked-on protester.

There are reports that there are still people up in the trees on the site.

Two people have been arrested for aggravated trespass at Fishersgate, the second EDO factory where a rooftop demonstration happened this morning. The arrestees are currently being held at Worthing Police Station.

A Critical Mass, 'Bikes not Bombs' is just about to depart from the Level in Brighton.

Despite this minor setback, actions will continue against the Brighton bomb builders, and Smash EDO are calling for people to come to Brighton and participate in actions against EDO.

"Every bomb that is dropped, every bullet that is fired in the name of this war of terror has to be made somewhere. And wherever that is, it can be RESISTED"

Have just spoken to the camp - the police have left with the tents and Marquee and people are determined to remain there, with plans to sleep under tarps for the nights. A number of actions are planned for tomorrow, and will go ahead.

It appears that there was at least one FIT officer from the Met there during the evicition, and that the Chief Exec of the Council was approached by the police and gave permission for an eviction if there was any illegal activity. The camp feels that the police have abused this agreement. The local paper the Argus was present during the tent-stealing operation, and filmed the events. they have told the camp that footage will be uploaded to their website ( http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/)

Pictures from the day will be uploaded to the Indymedia newswire in the near future.

If thats the condition of removal from council land then why are EDO MBM, the war criminals, allowed to stay at home farm business park which the council also own?

Be free of tents!

Search ebay (or ask at your local army surplus) for 'military poncho' or 'basha'. There'll usually be some 2nd hand ones if you have moral objections.

Either of those is lighter than a tent to carry and with a couple of walking poles (or two suitably spaced trees) and some para cord you have an instant shelter than can be dis/assembled in minutes. With the poles used as uprights you can camp up anywhere you can get your pegs secured.

The poncho also has the advantage of being an item of clothing (and 100% waterproof if kept in order).

I'd recommend getting a suitable bit of heavy weight groundsheet from a camping suppliers (the bigger one often have rolls of the stuff that can be cut to size).

The same can also be achieved with a lightweight nylon groundsheet (so long as it has eyelets) which is the cheapest option (but as some will already know tarps have limited durability).

If you really want to push the boat out then search for 'bivvy bag'. 2nd hand MoD ones usually go for around £50.

Make sure you wash anything 2nd hand you buy (according to instructions) and avoid the risk of scabies.

So:

1 poncho or basha

1 bit of heavy duty groundsheet to keep your sleeping bag dry

Suitable length of parachute cord (to tie to corners and pegs (and between trees if that your thing!))

4 tent pegs

2 walking poles if you want maximum possibility of camping where you like or can predict what the tree availability will be.

That'll fit into a little bag easily and isn't obvious to the plod.

Optional:

1 Goretex bivvy bag if you want to be able to sleep out comfortably in all adverse weather conditions (not usually needed in the summer) with least possibility of a wet sleeping bag.

And don't forget "I have the right to responsibly access this land".

Keep resisting - Solidarity from Bath!

28.08.2007 23:40

The pigs tried the exact same at Bath Climate Camp earlier this year - shutting down the camp using dubious legality (in our case, they used a personal CD player to use anti-rave legislation on us!) - but with the numbers and gear they had, they would have evicted us no matter what. We carried on with the 'camp' anyway, putting people up on sofas etc. We shut down the offices that were our target for a day, had a 40 strong RTS (confounding 80 or so cops!) the following day, and held a load of work shops and a food not bombs stall in town. Just because the tents arn't there, you can still make this an inspiring sucess - the pigs think that by ripping down our physical structures they can stop us - they cant!
Much solidarity from all at Bath Climate Camp - Dont let the fuckers grind you down, and have an awesome time! SMASH EDO!!!!
