Smash EDO hailed today's 'Remember Gaza' demonstration as a great success.
Over 300 people turned out to commemorate the anniversary of the aerial
bombardment of Gaza with banners and symbolic coffins.

A dynamic crowd broke free from police control and streamed through the
woods to surround the factory from three sides.

The factory, target of a long running campaign by the Smash EDO protest
group, was surrounded in a symbolic re-enactment of the siege of Gaza.

'The fact that this weapons' components factory was forced to close for a
day is a fitting memorial to the 1417 murdered victims of the aerial
bombardment of Gaza', said Chloe Marsh, Smash EDO press spokesperson.

The crowd was able to keep mobile and lively, finishing with an impromptu
street party in central Brighton.

At the time of release there were 5 arrests and several minor injuries.

A turnout of 300 is far from a great success!

A turnout of just 300 is far from a great success. Lets hope that there are at least several thousand for the Brighton Mayday anti-EDO demonstration.

The mayday protest had the advantage of being on a bank holiday, meaning lots more people generally available and/or milling about the town and feel like getting involved. Yesterday was a great success, most avoided kettleing all day, the only exception being a small group of about fifty who all just seemed unwilling to break the lines and escape (and there's fuck all we can really do when you're dealing with that sorta thing.) Lots of locals got involved at the kettle point as well, with everyone hanging out of flat/pub windows on every side chanting 'Nobody supports you' along with us at the police and many local kids spontaneously masking up and pushing and shoving (in all honesty some of the locals were much more militant than half of the crowd.)

Good one, roll on!

Really nice to see this news.
And a good rush to hear that the locals know which side we/they are on!

Fight the power.
