Recently the Gloucester Arms has been subjected to protests by anti racists due the landlord John Coyne's decision to allow ultra right wing racists the Jobbik Party hold meetings in the pub. This was not a random decision. Coyne [who claims now to be an Irish nationalist] has boards outside the pub offering British troops 20% discount having bought a former IRA pub and banning all the customers. But...Camden police have banned reggae in Camden Town & threatened nightclubs....
Camden police and council closed down Camden's reggae nights at Oh! Bar claiming that the bar was a "drugs bar" and claiming also that the venue was violent. What in fact happened was that a small number of troublemakers fought in there etc and subsequently Camden police have banned an entire genre of music in Camden and penalised an entire community. Following the closure of the Oh! Bar the police went into Bar Uno and told the management who had started playing reggae that they would be closed down if they played reggae music. The reggae nights stopped.
Compare this with the Gloucester Arms owned by John and Pat Coyne who have been playing porn on a TV which can be seen from the street, allowed children into the bar [where porn is shown], allowed neo nazis the Jobbik Party [an ultra far right party who are part of a European Alliance of Nationalist Movements] to hold meetings in there and have since had windows shot out, plant pots smashed and "Clos BNP Pub" graffiti sprayed on the walls. The pub is at the centre of a simmering feud between landlord Coyne [who has barred local residents] and residents who have complained that music has been played at full volume throughout the night until morning, customers have urinated on their walls, been abused by customers etc. Coyne had a number of illegal tenants living upstairs who have been evicted. He still owns the pub, which still has a license but has claimed it is now "under new management"..i.e. his extended family. Coyne is racist and anywhere that is happy to entertain the likes of the Jobbik Party should be closed.
During last week's "Week Of Action" the pub remained closed and Coyne has submitted a new license application.
Contact Camden council to make sure this license is revoked completely and Coyne evicted.
