1) TALK : THE COCA COLA BOYCOTT : TUE 4th NOVEMBER
Related Link:  http://www.colombiasolidarity.org.uk/
'We ask Coca-Cola to stop killing & you to stop drinking Coke'
DATE: Tue 4th Nov. TIME: 7:30-9:00pm. FREE ENTRY.
PLACE: Friends Meeting House. 126 Hampton Rd. Redland. MAP BELOW:
 http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=358000&Y=174000&scale=10000
SPEAKERS: Luis Eduardo Garcia (Coca Cola Workers Union - SINTRAINAL
Carlos Rodriguez (University Workers Union - SINTRAUNICOL)
Supported by: Colombia Solidarity Campaign & Bristol Stop the War
BACKGROUND: 8 Sinaltrainal union leaders have been murdered since
1990, killed by paramilitary death squads allegedly hiredv by
subsidiaries of Coca Cola in Colombia. A US Judge in a court case
brought by the United Steelworkers Union on behalf of
Sinaltrainal, has ruled that Coca Cola's Colombian subsidiaries do
have a case to answer, yet the multinational refuses to cooperate.
MORE REASONS FOR THE BOYCOTT: a) For the violation of human rights of
workers & their communities. b) For the imprisonment, displacement,
kidnapping & murder of trade unionists in Colombia, Brazil,
Guatemala, Peru, US, Venezuela, Palestine, Turkey, Iran & other
countries. c) The criminal theft of water sources & contamination
from bottling plants.
CHILD OF COCA COLA WORKER TORTURED: Attacks & threats continue
against Sinaltrainal members & their children. On the 10 Sep 2003 at
1pm in the Boulevard Simon Bolivar, 4 unknown men, their faces
covered by hoods, stopped David Josse Carranza Calle, the 15 year old
son of National Sinaltrainal leader & Coca Cola worker Limberto
Carranza, forced him off his bicycle, & bundled him into a white
truck. They drove away with him & tortured him, asking him over &
over where his father was. At about 4.30pm they dumped him in a place
known as 'Canon de la Ahuyama' where he was found by a man who
alerted the police.

FROM IRAQ TO CUBA? & THE TRUTH ABOUT GUANTANAMO BAY.
Speakers: George Galloway MP. Dr Stephen Wilkinson (Cuba Solidarity
Campaign) Lindsey German (Stop The War Coalition)
Links:  http://www.cuba-solidarity.org.uk/  http://www.stopwar.org.uk
Before the Iraq war, Bush proclaimed a list of countries which were
described as being an 'axis of evil'. Cuba was included in that list.
After the war in Iraq, Cuba could be the next target for 'regime
change'. For 44 years Cuba has been subjected to the US blockade &
has endured political, economic & military aggression from the
US. 'Cuba is now in danger as a result of Bush & his plans. It is
essential the Labour movement here & world wide rallies round to
support Cuba because so much of our future depends on its success'.
Tony Benn.
BACKGROUND FACTS: The Bush family have been closely linked to the
Miami anti-Cuba groups for decades. When Cuban anti-terrorism agents
infiltrated these Miami groups, instead of arresting the terrorists
the US threw 5 Cubans into solitary confinement for 18 months, tried
them in Miami courts & imposed huge sentences on them. The Miami 5
are still in jail today for fighting terrorism.
Since 2000, Bush has placed 20 far-right anti-Cuba politicians in
influential government positions. One of them, John Bolton, recently
accused Cuba of developing chemical & biological weapons, only to be
denounced by ex-President Carter & disowned even by the CIA. Forced
to face US Senate questioning, Bolton had to admit there was no
evidence to support his allegations.
3,478 Cubans have been killed by US backed terrorists based in Miami.
If Cuba murdered US citizens on this scale, it would have to kill
nearly 90,000 Americans to keep up. Of course, there has never been a
single terrorist attack by or from Cuba, anywhere. Come along to
learn more about the illegal US blockade of Cuba & the threats to
Cuba following the war against Iraq.

3) TALK: 'MODERN JIHAD.......' FRI 7th NOVEMBER
Title: Modern Jihad: Tracing the Dollars Behind the Terror Networks
Related Link:  http://www.modernjihad.com
DATE: Fri 7th Nov. TIME: 7:00-8:30pm. TAX: £1.00 Only.
Please Pre-Book:  christina.watkins@blackwell.co.uk 0117 927 6602
VENUE: Blackwells Bookstore. 89 Park St. Bristol. MAP BELOW:
 http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=358000&Y=173000&scale=10000
SPEAKERS: LORETTA NAPOLEONI & MILAN RAI
Book 1: MODERN JIHAD: Tracing the Dollars Behind the Terror Networks.
"Author & economic investigative reporter Loretta Napoleoni discusses
the $1.5 trillion terrorist economy, a fast growing illegal economy
twice the size of the UK's GDP, & maps out the arteries of an
international economic system that feeds armed groups the world
over with an endless supply of cash. Napoleoni reveals the
interdependency between economies run by armed groups & western
economies, & provides a valuable insight into real factors
dividing 'East' & 'West'.""
BOOK 2: REGIME UNCHANGED: Why the War on Iraq Changed Nothing.
"Milan Rai demonstrates this was a war based on lies. This was not a
war for disarmament or for `regime change', but for power. The 1st
half of Regime Unchanged documents the way in which Washington
undermined & shut down the UN weapons inspectors just as they were on
the brink of a new & decisive phase of inspections. The 2nd half
presents damning evidence that leading members of Saddam Hussein's
Ba`athist regime were deliberately restored to power in Iraq in the
1st month after `liberation'. A pattern familiar to US & UK foreign
policy.

4) THEATRE : 'ANIMAL' : 11th - 15th NOVEMBER
Tobacco Factory:  http://www.tobaccofactory.com/theatre.htm
A New Play By Kay Adshead, & Directed By Lisa Goldman
DATES: 11th-15th Nov. TIMES: 7:30-9:30pm.
Performance on Wed 12th is in support of Amnesty International.
TAX: £10/£7. BOX OFFICE: 0117 902 0344
VENUE: The Tobacco Factory. Raleigh Road. Southville. MAP BELOW:
 http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=357500&Y=172000&scale=10000
REVIEW: "At the heart of a London park there is a beautiful house.
Inside the raging Pongo has volunteered for an anger management drug
trial. But isn't anger vital to our humanity? Set in a mythical
England against ongoing war & civil insurrection, Animal is a
dark & funny tale of humanity's struggle for progress. In this
millenium, will we choose to be Animals or Angels? An explosive
visionary play about anger suppression and the power of the
pharmaceutical giants."
DIRECTORS COMMENT: "We are living through extraordinary times.
Earlier this year, 2 million people marched in London against a drive
to barbaric war. There was direct action at army bases, school
strikes & widespread spontaneous acts of protest. There is a growing
public disillusionment with British institutions and a demand for
greater levels of democracy & accountability. Animal centres on an
anger management drug trial (with military interests) and raises
fundamental questions about the ethics of human experiment.
Animal was commissioned and written before this explosion of dissent,
but in the parallel universe of the play an ongoing war is taking
place, against which there is a wave of mass protest. Charting the
relationship between these protests & an experiment on a man
expressing anti-social behaviour, the play raises vital questions for
our time. What constitutes anti-social behaviour in an inhumane
society? Should anger be socially managed/controlled or is it a
vital component of our humanity?" Lisa Goldman.

5) FAIRFORD : 'GATE' DEFENDANTS TRIAL : WED 12th NOVEMBER
Related Link:  http://www.fairfordpeacewatch.com
DATE: Wed 12th Nov. TIME: 9:15am onwards.
PLACE: Gloucester Crown Court. Kimbrose Way. Along the A430 off the
A38. On the junction of Commercial Rd & Southgate St. MAP BELOW:

Gloucester Crown Court can be reached in 5 minutes on foot from both
the rail & bus stations. Just ask a local for the Cathedral, & walk
down the main shopping centre. The Court is down a side.
TRANSPORT FROM BRISTOL: To book a lift from Bristol Tel: 0117 9466885.
Transport is FREE, though donations are very welcome! To see friendly
faces in court means an awful lot to a defendant.
LEAVING FROM: Anchor Rd Coach Park @8:00am on Wed 12th Nov.
(Near @Bristol. Behind the Watershed Complex. City Centre). MAP BELOW:
 http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?X=358500&Y=173000&scale=10000
PEACE VIGIL: We will hold a peace vigil before the trial starts, &
again at noon. We expect to return to Bristol when the trial ends at
4.30pm, but anyone who would need to return earlier is still welcome
to join us on the journey up.
BACKGROUND: Kate Holcombe, Geoffrey Cornock & Owen English will be on
trial at Gloucester Crown Court on Wednesday 12th November for
allegedly damaging the main gate at USAF Fairford (in the Cotswolds,
UK) at a demonstration in the lead up to the invasion of Iraq. Each
of them is charged with £8,300 worth of damage. If they are convicted
of doing this damage, the judge may well see fit to throw the book at
them. DOZENS of people helped to pull that gate open. Surely we're
not going to leave Kate & the others alone to take the rap for a
collective act? At the least some of us could show up for their trial.
Many people know Kate, who was so dedicated & effective in helping
get the Peace Camp set up at Fairford, who braved freezing
temperatures without even a tent for shelter at the start, &
who endured endless police harassment, to keep it going. Without what
Kate did, we would probably not have the peace campers' careful
documentation of what went on during the war, which looks set to
prove so valuable in various court cases & enquiries up & down the
land.

Rd Post Office. FOR MORE INFO Tel: 0117 9556198
SPEAKERS: George Galloway MP, Sammi Velioglu, & Sharon Foley.
GEORGE GALLOWAY MP: "On Thursday 23rd October George Galloway was
expelled from the Labour Party over complaints about remarks critical
of the Iraq invasion he made on Abu Dhabi television. Galloway
memorably described Blair & Bush as 'wolves' for invading Iraq.
Galloway has denied that he had invited the armies of Arabic nations
to attack British troops. The allegations which originated in
articles written in the Sun 'newspaper' came from a transcript of the
interview he did on Abu Dhabi TV. Galloway claims that the transcript
came from a translation from English into Arabic & then back
into English & states that this cannot be an accurate way to
determine whether he is guilty."

conference has finished, we have therefore decided to ask people to
book their own flights, but if you contact the email above help &
advice is available.
CAIRO DECLARATION:  http://www.stopwar.org.uk/article.asp?id=301202
"Resistance to the US occupation of Iraq & to the Israeli occupation
of Palestine is growing & the calling of the 2nd Cairo conference is
an opportunity to strengthen our ties with the anti-war movement in
the Arab world. The 1st Cairo conference, held in Dec 2002, issued
the Cairo declaration against US aggression & globalisation &
established the International Campaign Against US Aggression. In the
following months many anti-war initiatives were undertaken in Egypt,
Lebanon other Arab countries. These culminated in the 20 March
demonstration in central Cairo, the largest demonstration since the
1970s.
The 2nd Cairo conference has now been called for Saturday 13 & Sunday
14 December 2003. The preparatory committee in Cairo are now hard at
work arranging the conference. We are now calling on all peace
groups, trades unions, religious organisations, political campaigns &
organisations to send representatives to the Cairo conference. Now is
the time to draw together the forces of resistance in the Arab world
& from around the globe. The Cairo conference will be a sign of the
strength of that continuing resistance & of solidarity with those in
the Middle East resisting globalisation & imperialism."

the Nativity by a young girl at the Cultural Centre (see below for
info on the Cultural Centre) & are in packs of 10 for £3 (2 packs for
£5) plus p&p; & the calendar is £2.99 plus p&p. The calendar
depicts the Hakaya dancers from the Cultural Centre in their
traditional embroidered costumes. Dabkha dancing is performed at
weddings & ceremonies in Palestine, & is very exciting & colourful.
BACKGROUND: By Nina Beaven "Bethlehem Link was established in Bath in
1998 following a visit to the West Bank in 1997 where I met the
Director of the Children's Cultural Centre in Bethlehem who asked me
if I could make a link with a school in Bath. It was hoped that this
would be a stimulating experience which would help raise young
people's awareness of the world, encourage greater tolerance &
establish lifelong friendships. The organisation has no religious
affiliation & is non-political.
On my return I heard the dancers from the Cultural Centre had been
invited to perform at Westminster Abbey, that July, which was a great
honour for the children, but many of them were living in refugee
camps in Bethlehem & were not able to afford the airfares to
England. So in 1998 I decided to try to raise the funds to bring the
group to England. With the help of a friend, Carole Knight, the
money was raised & the children stayed with local children from Saint
Gregory's School in Bath, & made a link with Whitstone School in
Shepton Mallet.
Since then `Bethlehem Link' has continued to raise money, & the
children again made the journey to England last July, this time at
great risk to themselves. Once again they stayed with host families
at both schools & performed locally as well as in Derby & London.
They perform the Dabkha dance which consists of traditional movements
& steps which are choreographed to tell stories of Palestinian life.
It is very lively & exciting dancing, which the children perform in
traditional dress."

"If you go to one demonstration and then go home, that's something,
but people in power can live with that. What they can't live with is
sustained pressure that keeps building, organisations that keep doing
things, people that keep learning from the last time and doing it
better next time." Noam Chomsky
