Eye-Biza set to Change the way the English see Ibiza

Leelu | 19.04.2004 22:54 | Culture | London | World

Ibiza an island over-sensationalized for it's hedonism has been a popular summer destination for 30 years. Leelu's new book 'Eye-Biza by Word of Mouth' is a reportage of Ibiza 1997 - 2003. The book contains 1,200 photographs and texts and quotes from popular celebrities such as Howard Marks, Stephen Fry, DJ Norman Jay (Good Times), Jean Paul Gautier and DJ Erick Morrilo. The book shines light on the other side of ibiza, a bohemian paradise and tantalising island with seductive shores.

Eye-Biza is set to change the way the world sees Ibiza, revealing a world within a world that boldly lives in utopia. The Limited Edition (5,000 in print) book was created by Leelu, the london born photographer and publisher, who lived on and off the island for the last 22 years, it shows Ibiza in a light that is definitely not a tourist view. Leelu likes to make happy art and the photographs are filled with smiling people, cool people, seductive settings, sunlight and love. Its the Ibiza that tourists would dream to know about, spiced with writing covering a multitude of subjects, by the infamous Howard Marks, Stephen Fry, DJ Norman Jay and Jean Paul Gautier, etc. Eye-biza is a classy and intimate book on Ibiza, containing over 1,200 photographs by Leelu.

Eye-Biza was successfully launched in London last thursday, 8th April 2004, at Adam’s Street Private Members Club, The Strand, WC2, accompanied by Leelu’s seductively enchanting Photography Exhibition ‘Eye-Biza and Beyond’.

Eye-Biza had huge success last summer in Ibiza since it’s launch at the famous El Hotel, Pacha, on 27th August 2003, which was attended by all the well known beautiful people of Ibiza. Within three weeks of its launch, the immense press coverage had included: TV coverage on Spain’s Six o clock News, Leelu interviewed on MTV, two pages in newspapers El Diario de Ibiza, a page in El Mundo de Ibiza y Formentara, a page in Ultima Hora, two reviews in Pacha Magazine, a review in Dub Magazine, two reviews in Look Magazine, an interview of Leelu on Cada Cien and on Pete Tong’s Radio One show at Mambos, with books given away free on air for two weeks running. 1500 books sold in three weeks of the book hitting the shops, and that was at the end of the summer, with the book priced at 16.90 Euro.

Eye-Biza is sold for £14.95 in shops in the UK. At present it is available for sale at the Photographers Gallery, Adam’s Street, Folyes, and on Amazon for £12.25. Only 500 Limited Edition books will be sold in the UK.
