The SHORTWAVE REPORT 7/1/05 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

Dan Roberts | 30.06.2005 23:42 | Analysis | Repression | World

A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Cuba, Spain, China, and Russia.

Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (July 1) is up at the website
in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:47)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, Spanish National Radio, China Radio International, and the Voice of Russia.
From NETHERLANDS- At the 60th anniversary celebration of the UN, G Bush and C Rice were invited but didn't attend- the implications of this snubbing are analyzed by the former president of Costa Rica and a member of the UN University. Venezuela's president Chavez has offered oil at a reduced rate for Caribbean and other Latin American countries- Chavez says it is to help his poor neighbors, while critics claim he is flexing his political power.
From CUBA- A Viewpoint covering the history of Bolivia, a country with much experience in resource depletion at the hands of foreign interests.
From SPAIN- Mexico's government has given voting rights to citizens living abroad. Israeli troops are battling with ultra-nationalists who reject the Gaza pullout plan. Spain has banned the satellite distribution in Latin America of TV programming from Hezbollah, which France had already done in its own country.
From CHINA- Here's how China described the events surrounding the first anniversary of the transfer of power to the Iraqis. A senior Iraqi legislator was killed by a suicide bomber, the leaders made speeches in Iraq, the people on the street are frustrated, and a former government official announced a proposal to create a timetable for foreign withdrawal.
From RUSSIA- On Tuesday G Bush asked the citizens of the US to be patient about the occupation of Iraq. The US and some of the EU were quite upset by the election results in Iran, even claiming the election was rigged.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- (13.3MB)
