The charade was short lived; it was Ruddock's inadequate and compensatory personality that 'blew it' for the entire conservative right.
The new 'anti-terrorist' laws are being utilised to apprehend and deport an American peace activist; we recall a dissenting outburst against G W Bush in the Australian parliament, in response to which Bush replied, "I love freedom of speech!" The hypocrisy of both the American and Australian governments knows no bounds. In the recent past we published an article in which it was stated, and I quote:
"The new laws are designed to silence dissenting views, opinions and voices, not to secure against external attack. The most insidious law is that of "indirect incitement" which was obviously designed to 'deal' with any opposition. Modern ruling elites are aware that the 'enemy' (term used here in its relative sense) that poses the greater threat is the domestic population - not external gangs of bearded terrorists".
Ruddock's action confirms an agenda to silence protest - one of the most valuable rights and safety mechanisms in any democratic society; it should be plain to all that the (now fascist) government of Australia fears freedom of speech and protest.
