i the film - indymedia exposed - european screening tour starts 10th Oct, London

“i” positively vibrates with the energy and creativity of the movement it documents. Beautiful, intellectual, riotous, it fits in no box — and no blurb! Just see it! — Naomi Klein

“i” is an excellent introduction to the ideas of autonomy, horizontal social movements, networks, media and their interrelation in today’s corporate-driven global marketplace...

Expanding on the explosive prequel Eye of the Storm, “i” is a meditation on the relationship between media and power as manifest by the worlds largest all volunteer network of media activists, the Independent Media Center network, or “Indymedia.” This feature-length documentary portrays this unprecedented global movement through an intimate look at a single node of that network during the crisis that followed the 2001 collapse of the economy and government in Argentina.

Produced and directed by a pair of young filmmakers working with largely consumer equipment, “i” is both an example of independent, engaged grassroots media, and a portrait of how such media functions during situations of political crisis. Lyon and Ingoglia weave a tapestry of stories and perspectives of this group as they attempt to work in the swirl of political drama and grassroots struggle that followed the crash. The result is a dramatic and poetic portrayal of the complex questions that surround identity and information in our networked age.

“Indymedia in Argentina was a part of a larger movement for personal and collective autonomy that was on the rise during that time,” said Lyon. “We wanted to capture the relationship between the two—the network created a powerful resonance between what was happening in Buenos Aires and the thousands of similar struggles going on every day throughout the world. Our film tries to capture this strange amoeba of contradictions, hope and passion.”

Following the US premiere at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Lyon and Ingoglia will be touring with the film beginning in September 2006 to accompany a parallel series of experimental internet driven decentralized DIY screenings around the world.

The idea is to have a show each night in different cities and reach as many people as possible. Anybody interested in helping organize a screening should get in touch. The film was self funded so donations will be requested at the door and sell DVD's to keep this tour going.

There are promotional materials in the film web page (press releases
and pictures for posters), available in english and spanish. The itself has subtitles in English, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, Korean, Finish and Indonesian.
