We are hostages of an oppressive anti-democratic regime

O.Brega | 14.07.2008 16:44 | Free Spaces | Migration | Repression | World

Hereby, we address our call to the civil society in democratic Europe, especially from the Czech republic, to the free mass-media to help us in the justified and lawful effort of autoexilation in order for us to be able to activate as free human beings and as a perfectly legal organization.

The undersigned, the successive presidents of Hyde Park organization (from its foundation till the present) have requested, in the name of the organization and of our supporters, political asylum in the democratic countries. The majority of the members who were present at the general assembly on the 11th of May 2008 voted for this decision. The meeting took place under tensed circumstances as Ghenadie Brega, who was then the active president, was being held under arrest for 2 days, and the founding president had just been released from an illegal and unjustified arrest. On the same day, in the center of Chisinau city, innocent people were harrased for being of another sexual orientation than others, while police tolerated or even encouraged the hate and discrimination based on confesional reasons towards these people for their publicly expressed opinions. The Hyde Park association has activated for five years of its existence in such conditions, trying to promote human rights, freedom of expression and the fight against censorship.

As we understood that the political regime in our state is an antidemocratic one and that if we continue to openly activate, our lives will be endangered, we have gathered evidence demonstrating that we are being harassed and threatened, we have 9 files sent to the European Court of Human Rights. Of these, 6 have been comunicated to the government of the Republic of Moldova, which fact has made it even more agressive and dangerous. We have made a public call to the democratic countries for temporarily receiving international protection and to allow us to continue our activity under conditions of phisical safety. Our call was published on the website dedicated to the freedom of expression www.curaj.net and it was promoted by the press which is not controlled by the government.

On the 20th of May 2008 we have placed an official request (written in Romanian) of asylum at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Chisinau and a request of information on legal obligatory procedures. After a week we received an answer in english and czech languages, both signed unclearly, by which we have been informed that “the Embassy is not competent to examine asylum requests” and that we can find on the web page of the Czech Ministry of Internal Affairs “information available in four languages. The respective website has only one document in english, and it is a law regarding the residence of foreign citizen in the Czech Republic and the first article states that the law is not addresed for us – those who request asylum.
We kindly ask the press to promote our situation in order to contribute to the successful solutioning of this problem. The organizations which have expertise in this sphere could help us by identifying the concrete normative documents and state legal institutions competent for offering political asylum, eventually, if requesting and obtaining political asylum is not possible through diplomatic representative institutions (embassies) to prepare for us official invitations in order to allow us to obtain an entry visa.

You may find further details about us on the official website of the organization and about the abuses comited against us you may read in the news available on the internet, even in english (for example on the website of CEDO), also there are video recordings available which were filmed during street protests which have suffered police interventions, some of which have english subtitles.
