Changes coming to NCADC
NCADC seeks to urgently co-opt Committee Member/s keen to support this small organisation (1 full time employee, 1 casual) through a period of change. Yves Yitgna Njitchoua back in Manchester where he belongs
"Just an email to say that after a hard fight to stop removal, and then to stop fast-track judicial review process, Yves Yitgna Njitchoua , was released on temporary admission from Colnbrook IRC yesterday after being detained by Home Office for nearly 3 months.

He is now back in Manchester - however he has a big fight ahead of him if he is to win his case to stay in UK and not be returned to Cameroon.

Yves' lawyer (Mr Paul Chen) worked very hard on the case especially during the festive season to get this fantastic result today.

Yves would like to say thanks to all the people who made the effort to the support his campaign against deportation. Many thanks to NCADC and Medical Justice too.

The fight goes on but at least Yves can now fight without the daily stress of detention / removal for the time being."

Regards and Happy New Year all

'No Barriers, No Borders'

The claim by the UKBA that "Treating children with care and compassion is a number one priority" in your email of 6th January 2009 is a sick joke given the treatment of the Ndeh family's 2 children with Sickle Cell Anaemia when they were detained in Yarls Wood last year. They were denied the medication they require on a daily basis for the week they were detained there and medical staff refused to even take their temperature when they became ill.

'No Barriers, No Borders' title of a report published by a group of disabled asylum seekers and refugees, based in Sheffield. Contains accounts of the experiences of a number of disabled asylum seekers and refugees in Sheffield and elsewhere who are trying to access public services and survive the immigration process and includes good practice recommendations for supporting and working with disabled asylum seekers and refugees.

The report should be read by those people who make decisions about the way people's claims for asylum are processed, those implement these policies and services providers, as well as by disability activities, community organisations and voluntary sector groups which support asylum seekers and refugees in the UK.

The report can be ordered from No Barriers, No Borders, Burngrave Ashram, 84-86 Spital Hill, Sheffield S4 7LG.

Best wishes,

Linda Laurie for No Barriers, No Borders / l.laurie@blueyonder.co.uk

Altin Kica still here
"I just wanted to say a big thank you to all who supported through my campaign to keep my husband Altin Kica. Just to let you know he has been given permission to stay only for 6 months but we can hopefully extend so there is hope out there you just need to keep fighting."

Thank you / Jayne Heaven

Abbas Ali Babakir has left the UK
"Abbas was deported Monday. Quite a number of people sent mails to the Home Office and Royal Jordanian Air. John Mcdonnell MP sent in a request for an stay and we went to the airport to try to get passengers to raise a protest on the plane but it looks like he was on the flight - he told us he had been taken on to it by four security guards but his mobile's been off since it left."

Meantime more UK Iraqi/Kurds are being rounded up for another 'charter flight'.

Judge to decide if return facilities are adequate [unaccompanied child]
Where an unaccompanied child seeking asylum appealed against the refusal of his claim and removal directions, it was necessary for the immigration judge, when considering that child's human rights, to determine whether the reception facilities for the child on return were adequate. It was not solely an issue for the Secretary of State for the Home Department to determine.
