WELCON TOWERS APPOINTS CHAIRMAN

Per Staehr has been appointed as chairman of Welcon Towers Ltd. Part of the sub supplier to the wind industry Skykon A/S.

Welcon Towers is based in Campbeltown, Scotland, and supplies towers to the UK and central European wind turbine markets.

Per will bring extensive international industry and business experience to the company which was established in March 2009 following the acquisition of the former Vestas facility by its parent Skykon.

He was previously chairman of Danish-based A2SEA – which specialises in the installation of offshore windfarms – before its acquisition by DONG energy in June this year.

Per is also currently on the board of Houston-based Trico Marine Services Inc, a Nasdaq listed global offshore and subsea services group, the AIM listed LPA Group, and two other Boards of small vibrant privately owned companies.

Per who lives in Derby in the UK with his wife and two sons has been appointed to support the business in its ambitions to become a world-leading wind tower manufacturer, supplying innovative onshore and offshore solutions to the world’s top tier turbine producers.

He said: “I very much look forward to joining the Welcon team and to actively support the development of the business in Scotland and ensuring that Welcon Ltd, together with its sister companies fully exploits and supports the global demand for wind power throughout the UK and Ireland as well as Central Europe.

Welcon Towers has ambitions to develop a global footprint through consolidation of existing businesses, adding new facilities and partnerships.

As a first step Welcon is planning to extend the Campbeltown facility by building a 14,000 sq m factory and research and development facility.

Per’s appointment as chairman follows the appointment of David Canning as managing director and Niels-Jørgen Koed as vice president in April.
