NCADC ~ 2009 in retrospect

It's not the 'size of the community in the fight' but the 'size of the fight in the community' that stops deportations

For the twelve months January to December 2009 NCADC

Helped launch/publicize 76 Anti-Deportation campaigns

Provided 'Signposting' to nationals from 65 Countries: Families/individuals from, Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Burundi, Cameroon, Canada, Chechnya, Chile, China, Columbia, Congo Brazziville, Congo DR, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bisseau, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Jordon, Kenya, Korea South, Kosovo, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Netherlands, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Togo, Trinidad, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uganda, United Kingdom, Ukraine, USA, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe

Top ten nationalities contacting NCADC 2009: United Kingdom, Cameroon, DR Congo, Nigeria, Jamacia, India, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Bangladesh. (UK nationals, partners in detention or prison facing removal or partners asked to leave the UK)

TUC Race Relations Committee: Wilf Sullivan TUC Race Equality Officer, invited NCADC to speak at TUC Race Relations Committee, in March, which was very successful. In June, TUC produce/publish Joint TUC/NCADC, 'Anti-Deportations Campaigns Guide', to assist trade union branches and activists who wish to set up campaigns on behalf of members face with deportation, give advice to trade union activists who are involved with local anti-deportation campaigns and encourage trade unionists to become more involved in anti-deportation campaigns.

Air Italy refuse to fly anymore charter flights for UKBA, a campaign in October against Air Italy's involvement in a charter flight to Iraq, was a resounding success, with the Air Italy stating, 'in future we will refuse to operate air transport with asylum seekers or refugees.

Networking: Working with specific ethnicities, NGOS, Community groups, 1,187 Emails sent, general information, specific country/legal information.

National mail outs: Emails that go out to all NCADC recipients, 218 bulletins, information on new/revieved Anti-Deportation Campaigns, changes to legislation, on-line campaigns, events, items in national media relevant to immigration/migration, extracts from Hansard Commons/Lords on debates/questions relating to immigration/migration.

Visits to website: There were 73,811 visits to the website

Additions to website: 155 new web pages, 140 documents, (campaign model letters, legal briefings).

Contacted or contacted by 99 organizations 7,737 Emails, receiving/giving information. Includes high volume of messages from: Refugee Legal Group, Research Development and Statistics, Institute of Race Relations, Human Rights Watch, European Court of Human Rights, Court of Justice of the European Union, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Prisons, International Crisis Group, Council of Europe, UNHCR's Refworld, Council of Europe Press, Times Law Reports, all invaluable sources of quality information, passed onto NCADC contacts.

National office based in Birmingham continued to provide a backbone of support to all who contacted NCADC, those refused asylum, people wanting to support those facing deportation, people in detention, NGOs, community groups, seeking information.

Two new offices, with two new employees, were opened:

NCADC South, new employee Katie Boothby started work on 1st of August 2009, based at Durham Road Resource Centre in London, office fully functional.

NCADC North, Michael Collins started work on October 1st 2009, working from home in Scotland, (nearest town Inverness), office fully functional.
