Yarl's Wood five update, Sheffield Family Campaign, Iraqi deportations, Vietnam, EDM

Denise McNeil, still here, still wrongfully imprisoned
Denise, was one of 84 women in Yarl's Wood who staged a protest and hunger strike which began on Monday 8th February 2010. An absolute and unwarranted response to the peaceful hunger strike by Serco staff, led to eight hours of chaos. Many of the detainees were injured. Five of the women detainees were picked out as being leaders of the protest but were never charged. All were moved to prisons.

Denise bore the brunt of UKBA's revenge at the protest, she spent nearly a month in isolation, some of it in the segregation unit in HMP Holloway and remained/remains in HMP Holloway to the present day. An attempt to deport Denise on the 15th September 2010 was stayed.

Denise is still in HMP Holloway, please take time today, to send a card/letter of Solidarity to:

Vietnam: Widespread Police Brutality, Deaths in Custody
The Vietnamese government should promptly open thorough and transparent investigations into a series of deaths caused by the use of lethal force by policemen and hold the responsible officers accountable. Human Rights Watch has documented 19 incidents of reported police brutality, resulting in the deaths of 15 people, all reported in the state-controlled press in Vietnam during the last 12 months.

EDM 752: Peace, Justice, Reconciliation And Rights In Sri Lanka
That this House notes with concern the tens of thousands of Tamils still interned in camps since the end of the Sri Lankan civil war in May 2009; further notes that thousands of people, including children, are suspected of being held in secret detention without charge or access to the outside world and are therefore at increased risk of torture and extrajudicial execution; strongly condemns the restrictions and attacks on journalists and human rights defenders, the draconian emergency regulations still in place, and the lack of progress towards an inclusive political solution; urges the Government to express its concerns and to do all it can to promote a lasting peace in Sri Lanka based on justice and reconciliation; calls on the UN Secretary-General to remain firm and give full support to his panel of experts; and further calls for a full and independent inquiry into alleged war crimes committed by all parties during and since the end of hostilities
