An angry arms dealer

indymedia video | 11.09.2003 11:01 | DSEi 2003 | Anti-militarism | London

1 minute
430k

This arms dealer owns a weapons company 'employing 50 people'. It's 3pm, and he's been trying to get to DSEI since midday. He claims that 'if we don't sell weapons, somebody else will.'

After this footage he went on to berate a local resident, and on being accused of racism responded 'Well, I am a racist.'

The resident expressed support for demonstrators after seeing what sort of person doesn't mind selling weapons for a living.

excellent

great bit of footage - just shows what wankers they are

The line "If I didn't do it someone else would" is equally useable by someone chucking a pie at him...

riff raff

11.09.2003 13:23

With all due respect, that guy might be angry, but a bunch of communist riff raff had prevented him from getting to an invent which is integral to his business and the lively hoods of the 50 or so people he employs. Baiting the guy then filming him for a 30 seconds when he reacts just shows that you have learnt to be good little communists and use the tool of propaganda. If you are opposed to arms dealers, why not protest to government using a legitimate democrat method. Don't harass some bloke in the street and then wonder why he shouts at you.

I also note the allegation of racism - a bandwagon the left has jumped on, claiming anyone that they disagree with is 'racist' without providing any supporting evidence.
Yeah, we dont like the guy so lets accuse him of being racist, just to convince ourselves that hes the enemy.

Not once in that video was there any use of racialist commentary.

funny as fuck

11.09.2003 13:29

Very funny, this bloke was probably selling cars 20 years ago and doesn't see a lot of difference to his new bussiness, wanker. I'll take this oportunity to thank indymedia for keeping me informed of this weeks events, and to all those who took part, job well done! :-)

pot, kettle, black.

metal_monk, you're accusing people of making unsupported accusations, then making sweeping assertions that those who oppose the arms industry are "communists". Some of them may be, others have a variety of ideological viewpoints. Just as some, but not all, arms dealers are probably racists. Your use of "communist" in this way is the right-wing equivalent of precisely what you're complaining about with the use of "racist".

I also fail to understand the notion that, just because he employs people, we should overlook the fact that he is HELPING TO KILL PEOPLE. I'll take unemployment over death any day of the week.

Response to the right wing here

11.09.2003 13:57

The arms dealer wasn't 'baited', he was just shouting at anyone and everyone of his own accord. The protestors are responding, without swearing you might like to note.

The resident didn't want to be filmed, and I respected his wishes. I heard the delegate say 'Well, I am a racist.' I hadn't heard the preceeding conversation.

Umm, I'm not a communist. I just don't think we should sell weapons, which may be used against civilians or even our own troops, to any country that wants to buy them.

Isn't it funny how BNP types always use the word 'racialist?'

This should be preserved for posterity!

11.09.2003 20:40

So funny, sad and telling.
Any chance a much higher quality version of this can be made available for us to savour again and again?

A lot of the video from this week's protests should end up on the indymedia ftp or v2v video archives. The quality should be comparable to VHS.

Brilliant

15.09.2003 17:32

Absolutely brilliant. I always wondered how people who sold instruments of mass murder lived with themselves. Now it is clear - delusion and anger!

By the way, how does one get to the V2V and/or FTP site?

v2v.indymedia.de for the v2v stuff.
the indymedia ftp details can be found on the global indymedia video list

I don't think there's anything from DSEI up there yet, we'll probably just put the documentary of the weeks actions up there when its finished. Also a DVD/videoCD distribution is planned for those without broadband.
