SOS Iceland Audio Interview (Anti-Dam Campaign)

imc'ista | 17.04.2005 17:06 | Ecology | Free Spaces | Globalisation | London

Vatnajokull is the biggest non-arctic glacier in the world and its intricate eco-system is endangered by the construction of the giant Karahnjukar dam in the Icelandic Highlands - one of Europe's last surviving wildernesses. The damn will be paid for by the taxpayer and used to only supply power to an aluminium factory. Activists are setting up a summer resistance camp.

There's also a meeting in london this friday about the Dam:

S.O.S Iceland at the rampART Library
22.4.'05, from 8pm to 11pm

The construction of the giant Karahnjukar dam in the Icelandic Highlands – one of Europe’s last surviving wildernesses - is well under way. An international protest camp this summer aims to halt this war on nature.

It’s going to be one hell of a struggle since the Icelandic government seems determined to push these projects through, no matter what opposition it faces.

Learn more about the dam plans and how to to resist them....

Talk, Question and Answers, Screening and Islandic Music.

Food and Drink will be available as well.

Stop the Icelandic government and Alcoa destroying Europe’s last remaining wilderness for an aluminium plant!

Be aware of the ‘master plan’ to ‘develop’ Iceland’s beautiful nature into a heavy industry hell servicing the greed of multinational vandals!

It has already started. The Karahnjukar dam project in the Icelandic highlands is well under way...

But it can be stopped!
