The line-up of videos and films for the launch event of the North Edinburgh
Documentary Film and Video Society on the 25th of June, from about 11 am till
4pm.
Feel free just to pop in for a little time and let your curiousity take and talk
over!

“Why Close the G8”,
16 min, by Camcorder Guerillas,
'Who are the G8? What do they do? What do they talk about? and why does it
matter?
This short film gives a brief history of the G8, and explores the issues that
they will be discussing at Gleneagles. It goes on to give voice to people who
are protesting and finishes off with how people can get involved and what they
can do in their everyday life to resist the G8.
The film is a short, sharp and concise call to action. It is part talking head
and part animation.

“Women Vs. G8”,
13 min, by Ulla
This little video clip focusses on a group of women, who came together in
January to talk about their forthcoming plans, ideas and visions to protest
against the G8 and the build-up to it.
Women of all ages and walks of life talk about what inspires them, with archive
footage showing similar actions.

“Globalisation and the Media”
24 min, by Undercurrents
An award winning film about the role of the mass media during the War on Terror
and Globalisation. Consider a wide range of viewpoints from mainstream news
editors, hackers, journalists and alternative media activists. Discover how new
technology, such as the Internet and camcorders, are challenging the role of the
traditional news gatherer.
Winner One World Canada (best documentary), Winner Tokyo Video festival (best documentary)

“Trading Freedom – the secret life of the FTAA”
56 min, by Indymedia collective
“Trading Freedom – the secret life of the FTAA" offers an explanation of the
Free Trade Area of Americas, a proposed economic zone that will regulate the
economic activity of one-sixth of humanity, overriding local democracy in favour
of "rights" for multinational corporations throughout the Americas. This film is
the story of those who resist - indigenous struggles, working-class
organizations, women in rebellion, media activists, and a huge network of NGOs.
"Footage from Chiapas, Quebec City, Sao Paulo, Akwesasne and Tijuana, plus
thecombined efforts of over 100 videographers, photographers, free radio outlaws, writers, editors, techs, and rabble-rousers make this the perfect day out." --
Luther Blissett
