1) Women arrested on Monday are being held on remand (German:
Untersuchungshaft) at HMP Cornton Vale in Stirling.

Getting there:

HMP YOI Cornton Vale is situated on the B823 approximately 2 miles from
the town centre of Stirling.

If travelling by car from Glasgow, Edinburgh or the north, stay on the M9
until junction 11, take the road signposted to Bridge of Allan (2 miles)
Once you are in Bridge of Allan, turn right into Fountain Road (opposite
the Royal Hotel). Proceed down Fountain Road, past the Fire Station and
over the railway level crossing. Cornton Vale is 400 yards past the
crossing on the right hand side.

Parking is limited at Cornton Vale. Please park in the visitors parking
area only - not in the private residential area opposite the
establishment.

2) Men arrested on Monday are being held on remand at HMP Edinburgh (some
may be at HMP Barlinnie in Glasgow)

Getting there:
Located in the West Side of Edinburgh on the main A71, the prison is in an
area known locally as Saughton. The prison is situated in a predominately
residential area and has good transport and road links to the city centre,
which provides good access both for local courts and visitors to the
prison.

Getting there:

The prison is a 10 minute walk from the railway station or a taxi service
is available. From the railway station turn right and go under the bridge,
walk about 150 yards until you come to the South Inch (a large park area
on the right of Marshall Place) You can cross the park diagonally until
you comer to Edinburgh Road opposite the prison, or follow the road down
to the traffic lights, turn right and carry on up Edinburgh Road to reach
the prison.
The bus station is situated approximately 50 yards away on the opposite
side of the road from the railway station. Turn left when leaving the bus
station and walk along the road until you see the railway station then
follow the above directions.
If you are driving from Glasgow, follow the M80 until Broxden Roundabout.
Pick up the A9 to Perth. take the second turning on the left, carry on
down the Glasgow Road for approximately 1.5 miles, passing Cherrybank
Gardens, Spar and Perth Leisure Pool on the right. After the Leisure Pool,
take the third turning on the right and follow road until junction facing
the bus station. Turn right at bus station and follow the road to the
traffic lights. Turn right at the traffic lights up Edinburgh Road. The
prison is approximately 400 yards up the road on the left. If you are
driving from Edinburgh, follow the M90 until junction 10, turn off slip
road and follow Edinburgh Road down the hill, passed an Esso garage. Go
straight ahead through the traffic lights and the prison is on your right
hand is approximately 40 yards along the road.

Getting there
HMP Barlinnie is located in the north east of Glasgow near junction 12 of
the M8 motorway. It is also a short bus journey from the city centre and
is serviced by a number of buses including the Numbers 36, 38, 39, and
39A.
HOW DO I BOOK A REMAND VISIT?
To book a remand visit please phone 0141 770 4393. This allows you to book
a visit 3 days in advance. The entitlements are one 30-minute visit Monday
to Friday and an additional visit at the weekend on a Saturday or Sunday
also lasting 30 minutes.
The booking line is open Monday to Friday from 09.00-20.30hrs.

First things to do:
Write a letter (put a contact phone number in case their don’t have one
for you)
Sort out visiting
Go to the prison and put money for them in

Visiting
Visiting slots:
Mon-Fri : 13.30, 14.30h, 15.30h
Sat: 14.15h, 15.15h
Sun: Closed.

30 minutes per visit
Up to three adults per visit, one visit a day
You have to check in at the visitor’s centre (opposite main prison
entrance) at least 40 minutes before.

BE PATIENT: This is the frustrating process of getting in contact with
your friends who are currently in prison. If you call the prison, they
will not tell you if your friends are being held there because of “data
protection” legislation. They will only inform you about logistics.

Booking
When the prisoner is booked in, s/he can fill out a form with the three
people s/he would like to be visited by. S/he then books a slot (see
above) for the following day and communicates the arrangement to you by
phone. Only then you can go and visit your friend. The prisoner can call
from inside prison (only limited by money).
You however can’t call her/him.
Call 0131 444 3098 (not open before 10 or 11h) to check if your name is on
his/her list
Bring identification (passport/driving licence) when you go to visit.

Food
You will not be able to send food to your friend.
If your friend is vegan, contact the Vegan Prisoner Support group at: 020
82 92 83 25,
You should be able to buy refreshments for yourself and your friend during
the visit.

Money
You can hand in money at the Prisoner Cash office (blue door in front of
the visitor centre). This will paid into their account. You will need to
give the full name and prisoner number if you have it. (Don’t worry if
not). You can pay money in Mon-Fri: 9-12h, 13-15.30h, 18-20.15h,
If you visit at the same time, you need to hand in the money beforehand !!

Books
Books can only be sent in by post.

Clothing/Property
You can hand in clothing and other things to your friend at their request.
Prisoners will fill in a form with the date and time of what is to be
handed in, and when. S/he will have to phone you to let you know. Handing
in times: Mon-Fri: 10-20h, Sat-Sun: 14-15h.

Letters
You can send letters to your friend that should arrive the next day.
Post Offices are normally open Mon-Fri 9-17h and 9-12h on Saturday,
Edinburgh's main Post Office is at 8 - 10 St James Centre, which is at the
east end of Princes Street. It is open from Mon - Fri 9 - 17:30h. Last
collection form letter box outside Forest Café : Mon-Fri 18.30h, Sat :
12.15h, Sun : 14h, last collection Royal Mail House, Brunswick Rd : 19.30h
Using 1st Class stamps is quicker and should arrive the next day.

Remember: All letters will be open and possibly read.

If you want him/her to write back to you, remember to include your address.
You can’t hand the letter to the prison, you need to send it by post.
Your friend can buy paper and stamps inside.

Medication
Prisoners should see a nurse on arrival in prison and should hopefully get
medical support.

How to get to the prison
Bus: Lothian Regional Transport buses (coloured red). Numbers 3, 25, 33,
run from Princes street through Haymarket and past the prison.
By bike around 40 minutes.

Tobacco and stuff:
When you have sent in money, your friends will able to buy stuff from the
prison shop.
