NASA loses original videotape of first moon landing

When too many journalists, researchers and other curious people insisted on seeing the original NASA films, more and more requests came in under the 'Freedom of Information Act' to force NASA to show the original material. The answer now is: the originals are lost.

FPF - August 16, 2006 - The situation for some people at NASA and others apparently became very difficult.There had to be found a solution at NASA concerning the questions about the original tapes of the first lunar landing. So - like in many similar cases before - the usual is said: "The films are lost." Hoping the nagging and investigating will stop.
It must be feared however, that the amount of requests for information and global curiosity in relation to the lunar landing will grow after this statement by NASA. It has nothing to do with some form of ''conspiracy theory'' - the usual lowbrow phrase to kill debates. Even if there are thousands upon thousands of criminal ENRON, PNAC or 9/11-like conspiracies - it's not a theory, but only a matter of not having certain facts yet.
Just one example of governemental and criminal conspiracy: in 1995 a photo/film laboratory of the military secret service (MID) in The Netherlands, in an official statement said that the films and pictures Dutch soldiers had made of the mass executions and other war crimes at Srebrenica in former Yugoslavia, were lost or spoiled. Dutch and other NATO war crimes, also in the Balkan, were - and still are - covered up. But even dutch ex-PM and 'sell out' Wim Kok had to explain in court about their and US/NATO's war crimes. HOW COME SOME ASTRONAUTS - OF WHATEVER NATIONALITY - SINCE 1969 AND WITH TEN THOUSAND FOLD BETTER ELECTRONICS, BETTER FUEL, TECHNICAL POSSIBILITIES AND BETTER SPACECRAFT - FOR THIRTY-SEVEN YEARS NOT HAVE BEEN BACK ON THE MOON?
Nor on any other planet for that matter?
It's 2006, and there's still the question...
And no answer yet.

NASA LOSES ORIGINAL VIDEOTAPE OF FIRST MOON LANDING

August 15, 2006 - The U.S. government has misplaced the original recording of the first moon landing, including astronaut Neil Armstrong's famous "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," a NASA spokesman said on Monday.
Armstrong's famous space walk, seen by millions of viewers on July 20, 1969, is among transmissions that NASA has failed to turn up in a year of searching, spokesman Grey Hautaloma said.
"We haven't seen them for quite a while. We've been looking for over a year and they haven't turned up," Hautaloma said.
The tapes also contain data about the health of the astronauts and the condition of the spacecraft. In all, some 700 boxes of transmissions from the Apollo lunar missions are missing, he said.
"I wouldn't say we're worried -- we've got all the data. Everything on the tapes we have in one form or another," Hautaloma said.
NASA has retained copies of the television broadcasts and offers several clips on its Web site.
But those images are of lower quality than the originals stored on the missing magnetic tapes.
Because NASA's equipment was not compatible with TV technology of the day, the original transmissions had to be displayed on a monitor and re-shot by a TV camera for broadcast.
Hautaloma said it is possible the tapes will be unplayable even if they are found, because they have degraded significantly over the years -- a problem common to magnetic tape and other types of recordable media.
The material was held by the National Archives but returned to NASA sometime in the late 1970s, he said.
"We're looking for paperwork to see where they last were," he said.

Jesus if you people spent half the time wasted on 'facts we can't prove yet' on something useful like campaigning on the NHS, or challenging the spending regime in the UK, you'd be a force to be reckoned with.

I am sick of pathetic little people like yourself who use these places to pour badly formed scorn on the heads of those with different opinions and info to the sort that you are content to passively recieve. Like the effort of attempts at ridicule costs you much ...
... meanwhile our friend HR writes here and elsewhere regularly, at length, with style and with great depth of knowledge about a variety of interesting things - all with sourced links ...
... so what is imcuk's response? Well there are a few reactionaries that want to censor HR's contribution to this site (they call it 'hiding' and it involves splashing a background graphic across the words of others that prevent those with eye problems from properly reading what anybodyelse can ... perhaps actually worse than censorship, which at least is 'democratic' in its completeness ... and you can no longer comment on these 'hidden' articles, which prevent correction etc).
You have to wonder at the mental state these censors put themselves in to be able to justify their petty tyrranical attitude towards 'being the media' and of those willing to expend a miserably small amont of energy on bad mouthing those that post here regularly.

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to believe the depths to which some will sink to hold on to their comforble world views.
To those interested in the notions surrounding the "trip" to the moon, you might like to read 'Dark Moon, Apollo and the whistle blowers' by Bennet and Percy, Aulis publishers. There you will find examination of the central concerns of the controversy - such as the impossiblity of the photography, the cosmic radiation issue, the telecommunications problems and the general atmosphere of the military industrial complexs budgeting and political shinnanigins (including the very real and well documented absorption of the nazi war machine into the central core of nasa and the us army!).
