Sedition and Popular Media

Kingfisher | 04.11.2006 15:15 | Analysis | Culture | Social Struggles | World

Conservative (far right) ‘governments’ – presentation marionettes of Corporate and Financial interests – have unanimously implemented “new sweeping” (slogan) anti-terrorist and sedition laws to constrain or otherwise stifle dissent and opposing ‘views’. Conservatives can always be relied upon to implement the most lacklustre ‘solutions’. In characteristic mode they have all resorted to Legislation in a futile attempt to silence dissenting and protesting ‘voices’. Legislation has always been the refuge of all scoundrel governments and inept politicians. Nevertheless, the popular media remains unaffected by the new laws and continues to demonise, misrepresent, distort and omit details in order to present a ‘tailored reality’ to the public. Circumventing the ‘new sweeping laws’ is child’s play for any journo, analyst, artist or professional media manufacturer/fabulator/fabricator – WHY?

CONTEXTUALITY is the answer in a word; a recent film production (Art) depicts a detested American President, G W ‘one guess’, slain by an assassin. The vast majority of free people on the planet cheer this ‘fictional’ artwork. Is the ‘real’ world affected by ‘fiction’ of this nature (time to ask the English, French and Russian social novelists, Dickens, Kingsley etc) and discover that ‘fiction’ actually subverts transforms and remodels social ‘realities’. [Is YOUR ‘reality’ someone else’s fiction/fabrication; are you living your life according to a book or any other medium’s prescriptions?]

What is the relationship of Art/fiction with ‘reality’? Any proficient artist (Banksy, see gallery) would inform you that perforating, fracturing and AFFECTING (given) realities by utilising time-honoured tricks of juxtaposition and re-presentation (the ‘juggler’s toolkit) is a relatively simple matter. THAT which is so desperately guarded as ‘reality ‘ by the powers is a flimsy dream that is easily subverted.

‘Meaning’ is probably the most loaded word in any language – does anyone have any idea as to its actual 'meaning'? A cursory analysis reveals that the word “meaning” is meaningless, it’s the perfect word actually, no other word is able to implode on itself like “meaning”; it disappears into oblivion unless of course YOU endow ‘it’ (with meaning!) Is there an implication here, has something vital and kinetic occurred? Remember that FREEDOM is process (change) and DEATH is STASIS, formulaic or prescribed; one man’s food is indeed another's poison!

People flock to prescribed realities/fictions simply because they are frightened, and so they should be, facing perfect panic/chaos is an extremely frightening prospect, but it also offers an opportunity for transformation and REAL FREEDOM (taste it). Few emerge from the abyss to conquer the ‘world’ (social fictions) or in other words, to weave their own realities and transform whole societies/themselves, continuously – life is process, death is stasis.

These people can never be constrained – restraint is a high risk option that usually results in hero or socially transformative myth creation. It should now be plain why freedom-loving people everywhere are feared and loathed by conservatives and despots alike. Never despair however, since time immemorial, poets artists, jesters/jugglers have outwitted the powers and altered the course of human affairs. A locus for reality does in fact exist – are YOU able to discover it for yourself or will you remain a slave?

All sedition laws are easily circumvented by contextual tricks; the law was made for morons by morons and that is the truth of the matter. Despots and conservatives by nature lack creative inspiration, which places them at a disadvantage to intuitive, creative individuals, do you hear me, George, Tony, Johnny?

You have been chasing us for nearly 20 years – and you’re not even close. We promenade in public with phalluses strapped to our foreheads and no one sees a thing.

Adieu!
