Middle England judges the Climate Camp protesters

Sorrowful Sam | 14.08.2007 15:58 | Climate Camp 2007 | Climate Chaos | Other Press

Middle England, reflected by the readers of the Daily Mail have spoken. According to these greatly educated and insightful observers, the Climate Camp protesters are typically louts, scroungers, and law breakers who should be dealt with by force, intimidation and benefits assessments.

The readers of the Daily Mail have passed judgement on the Climate Camp protesters. Read their collective wisdom in the comments section, the link to which is posted below.

 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=475039&in_page_id=1770&in_page_id=1770&ct=5&expand=true

If these are the likes that the protesters are demonstrating on behalf of, I'd say let the fuckers choke on their own bitter bile and toxic emissions from fossil fuelled technology.

Interestingly enough, the comments all seem to be of like mind: right wing, reactionary, on the side of "law and order" (that's a joke) and feeling hard done by the protesters who are risking safety and well-being at the hands of those same enforcers of "law and order", as well as multiple deprivations. I don't know if this attitude demarcates the Daily Mail reader, or is an expression of one or a small handful of people, or simply the DM's editorial policy. But, if these people have any influence on government or reflect the values of middle England ... then god help us all!

That is the problem with ordinary people - they have views that differ from yours.

Are these comments real?

14.08.2007 16:20

Either the hate mail censors are carefully picking out the most ignorant, uninformed, kneejerking, stereotyping opinions or the comments are actually being made up by the censors. I find it hard to believe that there could be such chronically desperate ignorance amongst any paper's readership.

soon to arrive

Never mind the media

14.08.2007 16:28

First off The Daily "HATE" really isn't partial to anybody working grassroots for real change that challenge the status quo ("normality") head on. Secondly if the hate comments are similar in nature it's probably the same (set) of authors don't ya think? : )

WARNING - Wear eye protection before reading!

14.08.2007 16:31

Eurgh...... had to go wash the whole inside of my head out with soap to get rid of the vile, vile, vile right-wing, bigotted BULLSHIT! It really scares me that there are actually people who think like that (and that I may end up sitting next to one of them on the train - no wait they all drive to work in their Volvo's, phew).

Basically, it's down to editorial policy - the Daily Heil can't let the world change for the better - if things were rosy, what the hell would they write about? They only like to focus on doom and destruction. The sad thing is how many basically good-hearted people read that chronicle of hate every day, thinking it is a quality newspaper because of the posh typeface at the top - and then forget to wash the insides of their heads out!

My only consolation is that by resorting to stereotypes and lies, they reveal that they are rather jumpy about our movement. I'll bet they are!

I did send a response, anyone care to place a wager on whether it gets printed.... any takers?! No? OF COURSE! They don't print anything that makes sense (or anything by a jobless, scrounging, long-haired terrorist!!!!).

Daily Wail

14.08.2007 16:35

Comments in the Daily Wail tend to consist of hang 'em, flog 'em and shoot 'em. If these people confine their bile to just moaning that is the best thing.

Unfortunately the Labour Party tends to react to the smallest article in the Daily Wail with a fresh round of legislation.

free speech

14.08.2007 16:42

you have to be very arrogant to assume mainstream support. having just survived a 5 hour Arriva train journey, I took a vow to fly or drive next time. isnt idealism great?

fast freddie

Fast Freddie "survives"?

14.08.2007 17:48

Why is Fast Freddie talking about "surviving" a train journey? The one time I travelled by air, there was less leg room than on the average train, it was just as crowded, you couldn't move about to stretch your legs during the journey, and at one point the thing bounced up and down so much I nearly threw up (something to do with air currents apparently). On all the trains I've used, including the mega-busy Network Southeast ones, I've always found it possible to eat, read, sleep, or even have a mutual grumble about delays and cancellations with my fellow passengers, in relative comfort.
Freddie, we will all have to get away from the notion that we are entitled to "convenience" in our mode of travel, and in a few other things besides. In any case, most of the world (the Third World) doesn't live like this.

Ignore

14.08.2007 17:49

It should not come as any surprise that these brain-washed tossers will moan loadly about whatever they are told to be terrified of.

Problem is, that if everyone flocks to their website to read their bile then their hit count goes up. Which means they can charge more to thier advertisers. Dont fund them, they are scum who live off their ability to incense the rational.

No free speech at the Daily Mail

14.08.2007 17:51

I very much doubt that the DM will allow any comments through that don't fit in with their very narrow brand of free speech. I have posted multiple times under different names, using different IP addresses, to varying degrees of pro-CCamp but nada.

As for "ordinary joe" - I don't care if people have different opinions from myself, so stuff the sarcasm you dink, and go and read a selection of the vile dross served up as comments before you blithely disregard what the OP was presumably trying to get at.

BAA employs Trolls!

14.08.2007 18:27

Todays papers are full of unsourced stories about terrible climate protestors are going to spoil BAA's profits, sorry, the travelling public's holidays. If BAA are so shit scared that they are now having to Troll on Indymedia then the climate camp are winning already!

Pity the Trolls are so crap. The man on the Arriva train is a gem. When they privatised the railways it was with a promise of better services and cheaper fares - better and cheaper was it mate?

Even Daily Mail readers are going to have to face the truth, unfortunately probably only when their homes are knee deep in overflowing sewage and flood water. Funny the government couldn't find 1800 policemen to help all those flooded out in Gloucestershire, Hull and Yorkshire. I guess as on 7/7 chasing hippies and kids for politicians and big buisness is more important than protecting the people who pay their wages.

Good luck to all at the climate camp!

public relations

14.08.2007 19:26

i´m guessing but perhaps BAA have hired a PR company?

I want my money back!

14.08.2007 22:41

Floods across England, the leaking of our real (longer) runway plan, undercover journalists spotted and ejected sans dirt and even the local Labour MP isn't on message. What can I do?

Bonuses for BAA staff who post abuse on websites! I have a flight to Barbados for the first person to link dreadlocks and body piercings with box cutters and 2-stage peroxide explosives! (Hey, why ARE they making their own yogurt....?)

BAA's Head of Marketing

Written ironically - maybe?!

15.08.2007 06:39

Having managed to avoid ever reading the 'Daily Mail' in my long life until yesterday I was shocked at how completely stereotypical the writing and descriptions of the protestors were. I would like to believe that the comments following the article were made up (especially from the lady who wants to send us all to Guantanomo Bay for 10 years (!!!)) but I fear that this is not the case. And yes after reading bile like that it is hard to work up the motivation to feel love for the human race - but don't forget this is only a small percentage of the whole human race and the people who are suffering the worst effects of climate change right now are those who will never ever read the 'Daily Mail' and that revives my motivation!
