8 Demonstrations against all removals to DR Congo Tuesday 28th

Emma Ginn | 25.08.2007 17:21 | Migration | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements

(Temporary) Victory to the campaign against deportations of 'refused asylum seekers' to DR Congo! The Home Office say they will not attempt to remove any refused asylum seekers on the 'Charter Flight' scheduled for Thursday or any other flight, pending the AIT Country guidance case.

However, 'Charter flight' to go ahead
A source has informed NCADC, that the National Enforcement Casework, who take casework decisions regarding removals, have indicated that they are going to fill the 'Charter flight', which is still scheduled for Thursday 30th August, with DR Congolese who have not claimed asylum. It seems that the Border & Immigration Agency has sufficient people in detention centres and prisons to proceed as planned but with the exclusion of refused asylum seekers from the DR Congo.

The Home Office also intend to put on the 'Charter flight' Congolese from Republic of Congo (the freeze does not apply to them), after stopping in Kinshasa the flight will proceed to Brazzaville.

8 Demonstrations against all removals to DR Congo Tuesday 28th
A fantastic victory has been achieved, but the temporary "freeze" on removals to the DR Congo is only until after the DR Congo "country guidance" case is heard. So the struggle is far from over

- We demand proper protection and Indefinite Leave to Remain!
