RBS- please Darling, can we have some more

Anti-crisis | 08.02.2009 17:09 | Sheffield | South Coast

The begging by poverty stricken bankers at RBS for extra cash to pay for their high class whores and caviar and foie gras canapes seems to have paid off. Chancellor Darling and Supreme Leader Brown have agreed that there is a real need for these poor unfortunate bankers to get a bonus from the state owned bank.

Using the excuse of contractual obligations, the Government has assured it will not interfere in the bonus payments offered to RBS bankers. Yet when a business has failed so woefully that it collapses and has to be bailed out to the tune of 20 billion quid then unfortunately past contractual arrangements go out the window.

They have also tried to dress the bonuses up as a measure to help poor hard working bank staff: "Obviously there are contractual problems with some staff. And... if you look at your average teller, they're not terribly well paid, and no-one would quarrel with making sure they are properly rewarded."

But reports put the potential total bonus figure at up to £1bn for the company's 177,000 staff. So assuming that each member of staff gets 100 quid then it would be about 1.7 million quid not 1000 million. In actual fact the Labour Party are not particularly concerned about those at the bottom of the ladder, it´s more about helping their mates.

Remember Farepak

Gaynor May, of Gelli, was putting money into Farepak for 21 years, lost £400 herself and five orders of £500 from her customers days before Xmas 2006.

She said: 'I feel it far more for my customers than for me.

'A lot have got young children and rely on it.

'I am hoping the government steps in.'

At the time Welsh Labour party MP Chris Bryant said 'But if the government stepped in and paid everything back they would have to then do it for every company that got into financial trouble.'

Whilst teachers, nurses and ambulance drivers are told they must subject themselves to a freeze on pay since they might cause a spike in inflation these bankers can continue to receive fat bonuses for failure.

There is no argument on this one. We gave up on Iraq but this time it is time to get out on the street. This cannot happen. If these payments go ahead it will be the final kick in the face. If they get away with this they will believe they can get away with anything.
