March to Defend Jobs, Services and Education

posted by Unison worker | 09.05.2009 13:15

Saturday 23 May, 2009. Assemble 11.00am at Highbury Fields, N1.

Demonstration and March from Highbury Fields to a Rally in Archway Park.

Supported by Islington National Union of Teachers, Public & Commercial Services Union., London Metropolitan University Unison & University and College Union.

As unemployment soars, 1,500 jobs in Islington and Holloway are about to disappear.

At London Metropolitan University, 550 posts will be cut, mostly support workers.

At Archway Tower, 500 civil service posts will be cut.

At City University, adult education courses are at risk.

Join us on this march that will bring together university lecturers and support staff, students and civil servants demonstrating against these attacks on our livelihoods and the welfare of our families.

Starting from Highbury we will pass London Metropolitan University in Holloway, where its 'widening participation' agenda could become a relic if courses and facilities, such as nurseries, close.

We will rally at Archway Tower, the threatened workplace of hundreds of civil service staff.

The march will be followed by an evening of music and comedy to Defend Adult Education, starting at 7.30pm, at The Cross Kings, 126 York way, Islington N1 0AX. Kings Cross Tube. Organised by CALL (Campaign for Adult Lifelong Learning)

March with us to say NO to this avoidable cull of jobs, NO to the narrowing of educational choice and NO to the shrinking circle of opportunity.

No to shit jobs - what about reclaiming land. Poor middle class fuckers now feeling the pinch? Good. Been too fat too long. This process has been going on a lot longer than you care to mention
( not to mention the bullshiot unions who would rather ignore the' underclasses' ) . But then you probably think we are dole scum. Fuck the state.

I don't really care that civil servants are losing their jobs. Ultimately you are working for the state so we know where your priorities lies.

Don't try to use us because you are suffering the shit we suffer, We don't need you. Fuck off.

Q. where have all the lifestylist crusties gone?

10.05.2009 09:43

A. oh hai here they are!!

seriously, the 'analysis' that the above comments make is just so painfully bad that it makes me embarrassed to be an anarchist. seriously, get a grip on reality and read a fucking book that wasn't written by CrimethInc.

i don't know even where to start with responding to this shit.

At least protest at the huge payoffs top managers will receive

10.05.2009 17:54

Most workers affected will be the lowest paid support staff, such as security staff whose jobs are being outsourced, whilst managers at the top of the food chain will retire with huge pensions and the like. Many people affected are nearing retirement, having worked in bonebreaking jobs in their working lives (and still have bad backs and weak bladders as 'industrial wounds'), won't get jobs in the current climate and will start their years as pensioners earlier than expected and in more poverty than if they made it to 65 before being tossed aside.

The comments on this thread are truly an embarrassment!

Go out and get a life (not a lifestyle!) and think about the crap you are coming out with!
