Climate activists pay Jeremy Clarkson a visit

Keith Parkins | 17.09.2009 15:04 | COP15 Climate Summit 2009 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Social Struggles

This morning seven activists from Climate Rush on the Run decided to pay Jeremy Clarkson a visit.

"Seven of our activists dumped dung on Jeremy Clarkson's front lawn this morning – he can deal with our emissions since he won't deal with his!" -- Climate Rush on the Run

"I'm the biggest libertarian of them all -- I'm dumping dung at Clarkson's gates so he might understand that his attitude will land us all in the shit." -- Tamsin Omond"
"Jeremy is keen to land us in the shit! So he can have ours ... ' -- Climate Rush on the Run

At a cost to the environment of an estimated 1.7 tonnes of CO2 emissions, petrol head Jeremy Clarkson drove to the Arctic to deliberately antagonise environmentalists.

The Arctic is a fragile environment. CO2 emissions in the Arctic has a disproportionate bad impact. The Arctic is warming much faster than predicted, the ice is melting much faster than predicted.

Temperatures are rising fastest at the poles. The Arctic Ice Sheet is vanishing. Were the Greenland Ice Sheet to melt, sea levels would rise by 17 metres. Many coastal cities, including London, Bangladesh, South Pacific Islands, would not survive these sea levels.

The Arctic is expected to be ice free in the summertime sometime between 2011 and 2015, that is 80 years ahead of what was predicted only a few years ago!

This morning seven activists from Climate Camp on the Run decided to pay Jeremy Clarkson a visit. They dumped a pile of horse maure on his front lawn.

Climate Camp on the Run are wending their way through England from Sipson near Heathrow to Totnes in Devon. They are highlighting and raising awareness of climate change with the occasional direct action against climate criminals.

Last weekend, Australian activists tried to shut down Hazelewood, the world's dirtiest coal-fired power station.

The next big action in the UK will be at Ratcliffe-on-Soar coal-fired power station, 17-18 October 2009.

What a waste

Horse manure is wonderful for the garden. Would have been better to use one of the
wheely bits of human manure from the climate camp.

Tamsin again

17.09.2009 17:12

It's not about her
It's not about her

'RUSH! is Tamsin Omond's candid account of becoming a radical activist and spokesperson for climate change and feminism. In 2009, she set up the movement Climate Rush, and has been regularly involved in high-profile campaigns, like the Heathrow Runway protest and famously being arrested for climbing atop the Houses of Parliament as she lobbied Gordon Brown. In a world where we are all too aware of running out of natural resources, and climate change has hit the headlines with a vengeance, Tamsin is finding a way to motivate politicians and governments, as well as a large mass of citizens, to the fact that it is imperative that a serious hold it put on our consumption, and climate change is worked into the political and economic agenda.

While shadowing a priest in a North London parish, Tamsin Omond started to read climate change data and environmental writers. Searching for a spiritual haven, and a way of marrying pastoral work with social change, Tamsin was drawn into radical activism. She tells of her subsequent arrests and prison experiences, and the unusual childhood that influenced her path.

RUSH! will be published to widespread publicity ahead of the G20 Climate Summit in December 2009'.

Obviously the perfect Xmas gift!

17.09.2009 18:29

Has Indymedia become an outlet for advertising now?

Hmm

Nice idea

17.09.2009 21:15

But can someone please remove the Advert!

WTF

Cows

17.09.2009 21:43

"At a cost to the environment of an estimated 1.7 tonnes of CO2 emissions, petrol head Jeremy Clarkson drove to the Arctic to deliberately antagonise environmentalists."

Now whilst I think clarkson is a smug bastard, I seem to remember once seeing him driving a car with a dead cow on the roof. Every cow emits approx 4.2 tons of CO2 each year. Surely exploiting that dead cow has ofset the arctic journey?

Bob

Advert! No, it's a damning critique, one hopes!

17.09.2009 23:25

Advert! It was supposed to be read as it is. Anyone who wears a T-shirt that says 'This Is Not About Me' has to be protesting too much, I think. The text about the book shows how commodified the struggle against crazed climate change becomes in the hands of these no-good rich wastes-of-space. That and shouting out in Aylesbury 'come and meet a TV chef'. They're haven't read many critical works on 'the media', have they!

I thought home demos were illegal now?

18.09.2009 00:13

Animal rights activists have been remanded for doing peaceful home demos since some laws banning them were brought in a few years ago. How come other activists get off scot free?

bin action in leeds had a different result...

18.09.2009 08:57

An action that took place in solidarity with the striking refuse collectors, in Leeds, on Wednesday, was of a similar ilk but a totally different result. In this one, several bags of rubbish were left on Councillor Brett's doorstep with a note saying 'In Solidarity with the Bin Strike'. Unfortunately, this resulted in a house being raided, everyone in it being nicked (including a customer of the printers downstairs who just happened to be coming in) and held for 20 hours. They are bailed to return in November. It's not just animal rights people getting a rough time!

True Trooper.

18.09.2009 12:08

"Animal rights activists have been remanded for doing peaceful home demos since some laws banning them were brought in a few years ago. How come other activists get off scot free?"

I wonder what would have happened if the protesters who got onto the roof of parliament were anti-war or anti-capitalists...or even muslims!

Can anybody hear a gun clicking?

Clarity.

What is the problem?

18.09.2009 13:49

What is the problem everyone is having with Tamsin Omond? Is it because she was not born in the gutter and does not look like a pikey?

She and her merry band of 'suffragettes' has pulled off an excellent stunt, bags of publicity. En-route they are raising awareness of climate change.

Keith

..

18.09.2009 14:28

It's quite clear that Tamsin is a self-serving egomaniac. This is just another empty publicity stunt, this time against an irrelevant tv personality. If anything it will fuel Clarkson and others' hatered of self-righteous, greens.

I'd love to be proved wrong, maybe she will come across really well in her new book?

Cuthbert

Am I a better anarchist than you?

18.09.2009 14:57

I think I'm with Keith here. I've not got a lot of time for Tamsin or Climate Rush. But, as I see it, there not main causers of climate change or stopping people taking action against it, so why all the fuss? I'm going to stop reading stuff about this now and check out  http://dontbuildkingsnorth.noblogs.org/ to find out what effective action I can take rather than spend my time slagging off others for the actions they take.

Clarkson, the Baronet's granddaughter and a pile of poo

18.09.2009 15:54

Critics of Tamsin Omond are putting themselves in the same playpen as James Delingpole, a pillock writing in the Torygraph

 http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100010427/clarkson-the-baronets-grand-daughter-and-a-pile-of-poo/

Well done for such an amazing own goal!

Tamsin

18.09.2009 16:54

You'll all being really mean to Tams and the crew. People going on about the horses! They aren't THEIR horses, silly, they are rescue horses, saved from neglect. Tams' horses are in stables back home. You wouldn't want a decent nag to walk all that distance on roads it's bad for their fetlocks. They ex-Pikey horses are used to it. So come on. Pull together and we'll beat this climate-crisis thingy!

Re: Keith

18.09.2009 17:39

It's not either/or is it? Critics of Tamsin have a point, that doesn't put them in the same cesspool as a Torygraph scratcher. Up against the wall for both of them!

Tams has really cracked it this time.....learn the song as well. So Wicked! You inspire us all...

THE JEREMY POO SONG

I’m picking up poo, poo for you, Jeremy,

What a thing to do!

I’m picking up doo doo

To tell you Jeremy,

Cut your CO2

I might be only driving 3 HorsePower

And my top speed trot is only 12 miles per hour

But the oil is running out and fast

And my engine just runs on grass

So what you gonna guzzle in all them cars

If you think it’s not a problem then I think

You’re talking out of your arse.

I’m picking up poo, poo for you, Jeremy,

What a thing to do!

I’m picking up doo doo

To tell you Jeremy,

Cut your CO2

You don’t give a toss about your emissions

And you took a big truck on an arctic expedition

But the footprint of your little spin

Was one point seven tonnes of carbon sin

And it’s nothing to the damage black carbon can bring

So we thought we’d dump a taster

Of the shit we know you’re landing us in!

I’m picking up poo, poo for you, Jeremy,

What a thing to do!

I’m picking up doo doo

To tell you Jeremy,

Cut your CO2

personal attacks

19.09.2009 13:18

Indymedia UK is not and never has been a forum for personal attacks.

Keith

Personal? Political?

19.09.2009 18:02

Indymedia is one of the most used forums for personal attacks whether it wants to be or not. Like most forums, it exudes bile, half-baked politics, ranting and people half reading the posts and then spewing out 300-word hate fests. Wish it wasn't the case.

However, I don't see the problem with having a go at someone because they're privileged. You can't separate out the personal and the political, especially in Tamsin's case.

brilliant be inspired

20.09.2009 15:05

I believe the comments on this post are horrendous, if your not jealous or tied up within the dogma of perceived class, then you should see the brilliance and power of this action, our deepest fear is that we are not inadequate but that we are powerful beyond belief, for those who would rather 'Class War' did the action, this action has also recieved alot of press in the 'Sun' and the 'Mirror', have you forgotten what it feels like to feel powerful? or would you rather have a witch hunt to massage your insecurities?
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
