global children's revolution proposed with kids leading climate marches

nick 07883242168 | 06.10.2009 14:35 | COP15 Climate Summit 2009 | Climate Chaos | Education | Workers' Movements | World

some of the road protesters from the 1990s would like to see a worldwide children's revolution with the children of the eco-warriors leading the global climate change marches and demonstrations on 24 october 2009

it is being proposed that the kids could carry banners reading "can you save the human race?" and "the children are the future"

An appeal is being made to tamsin omond and the climate rush suffragettes to help lead the kids' bloc march in london and to attract publicity for the cause of working to ensure the survival of future generations

Many eminent and reputable climate scientists have warned that the human race faces extinction this century as a result of the burning of fossil fuels

There should be a worldwide war on global warming and many of the children of the road protesters who were born and raised on the protest sites in britain in the 1990s are still working to fight against climate change

Rob the rub and magic dave from peace not war have already offered their support for the next children's revolution and it is hoped that rinky dink and people and planet and the rhythms of resistance and the clown army all of whom were part of the first childrens revolution at stirling in 2005 will also get involved again
Thank you
For and on behalf of the children of the eco-warriors

Also worth saying that not breeding is the best thing you can do environmentally

06.10.2009 18:49

It is also worth saying that not having kids is the best thing you can do for the environment, since it effectively increases your footprint exponentially, and you have no control over what your descendants will be like.

Second best thing to do for the environment is go vegan or at least cut down on meat and dairy.

Once the kids are here of course we have to do our best for them, but remember folks, use a condom. Or have the snip!

why "for and on their behalf"?

06.10.2009 22:10

i've been following this group with interest for a long time, having been brought up within the peace movement at greenham and other places, sympathising with kids who have their parents' political visions foist upon them...
i wonder why this nick bloke has to speak "for and on behalf of" the children? at least some of them are old enough and bright enough to post their own messages on the internet i would bet. if it's a children's movement, let it be a children's movement, get the adults out of the bloody way and let the children speak directly to us.

a child of the peace movement

So the best thing for the earth is for us not to have kid? Moron.
The best thing for the earth is for us to deal with capitalism once and for all.

babies?

"most of my friends' children are only babies and toddlers" - well how dare you claim to speak for them then, ffs let them find their own words in their own bloody time! you can only speak for yourself, and possibly their parents. poor kids...

shocked

of course we should stop breeding

07.10.2009 12:08

We forget something and that is not that there are too many people on Earth but that there are too many people in rich nations that use up all he planet's resources etc. If we are to stop climate change then we should stop breeding asap as well as doing all the other things, having children is a very selfish thing to do

F off antibreeders

"having children is a selfish thing to do"
Piss off antibreeders.
As parents we get blamed for many of society ills, and now we're to blame for climate change too.
You fantastically stupid and oppressive antibreeders wouldnt be around to complain if your mothers hadnt been so "selfish"!

a breeder and proud

my mother didn't choose to breed, my father made that decision, and yes he was a very selfish man indeed.

selfishness

08.10.2009 09:42

my mum and dad didn't know or fully comprehend the situation we are in, climate and consumption-wise. they didn't breed in the full knowledge of the emergency we are in, knowing that we need all hands on deck as it were to sort these problems out. you people breeding now are choosing to devote your time and energy to your own off-spring, time that could be spent working to save the planet, as well as increasing your consumption tenfold. the world does not need another white baby, simple.

"So the best thing for the earth is for us not to have kid? Moron."

If that's the best response you can some up with, I rest my case.

"The best thing for the earth is for us to deal with capitalism once and for all."

It would be a good start and might delay the inevitable for a while, but even an anarchist utopia is going to have problems if there were 50 billion people on the planet. Anyway, it isn't about what is best for "the earth", which will easily wipe us out if we become too much of a problem, it's about what is best for us as humans, and all the other sentient lifeforms on the planet.

The planet has finite resources, fact.

If the population keeps growing, it will eventually use up all those resources, fact.

But before it does, it will make life very unhappy for the people living there. It's not so bad for us in the privileged West, but many countries have it very bad already because even the so-called Green Revolution of the 60s can't squeeze enough food out of the soil, even if everyone became anarchist vegans.

Remember kids usually rebel against their parents, so I dread to think of all the little Young Tories being born to all the hippy breeders right now. Sex should be for recreation, not procreation!
