Today Malcolm Mclaren has Died

Malcolm Mclaren has died today age 64.
 http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/apr/08/malcolm-mclaren-dies-sex-pistols

I met Mclaren in '72 When at the time he had a Shop in Kings Rd
Selling Teddy Boy clothes, records, Brothel Creepers etc.

I bought off him 'Summertime Blues..Eddie Cochrane' for 75p
Quite expensive I recall..He wouldnt Haggle !!

The Shop Later changed it's name to SEX..Selling torn Clothing
etc which was already a fashion in the New York Disco scene of 76.

He then went on to Form and Manage the Sex Pistols and
getting them to wear some of the Ted clothing he was keen to
get rid of.

McLaren was a Student of the the Situationist Movement...
the work and Philosophy of Guy Debord..

In this work Debord Describes that Life has become a Series
Of Spectacles..( one has come to expect a Spectacle )
EG: War, Scandle, bent poletions, gary glitter etc etc.

He created the Sex Pistols as a Series of Spectacles,
God Save the Queen, recorded at the time of the Jubilee etc etc..

As with any Spectacle..It soon wares out and people want
Another one.

So in the End The Spectacle which was Malcolm Mclaren has
Now Faded.

Compared to

Compared to the likes of Tony Wilson, Malcolm McLaren was a genius. Fact.

popular kulture - rich pickings for vultures

as a situationist specakle, from now on, we reject the conventions of English gramma and speling corectly....

aside from that, Malcolm McLaren always was both a genius and a pretentious capitalist sell-out

The Pistols were a highly thoughtful situationist specakle - completely overhauling popular kulture in 1977 as the foremost punk band of that new musical era at that time .. shame that the anarcho-nihilism they ultimately represented formed the larger trend in that punk scene, with the effect on popular kulture that these ideas stirred up metamorphosing into rampant loads-a-money individualism in the 80s, opening up popular support for the free-market which catalysed the turbo capitalism of the Thatcher years. Anarcho-fascism/nihilism transformed into the new feudalism of casino capitalism

so long!

I'd say "fuck him" but dying of cancer and being remembered as a cunt by 70 percent of the musicians who worked with him is a good enough sentance.
anyway if there was sex pistols,
then no crass,
no crass means no indymedia.
fact!

take care malcom thanks for making the 70s and 80s interesting!

I'd happily...

...forego Indymedia if it meant Crass had never played a note.

I remember the tabloid hysteria

Malcolm and his Sex Pistols act freaked middle-England out so much in the late 70's that they returned a Tory government in '79.

McLaren not the inventor of everything good in popular music shock

> Compared to the likes of Tony Wilson, Malcolm McLaren was a genius. Fact.

Really? I'd have pegged them at about the same level - extremely fortunate chancers who managed to hang on to the coat tails of one talented group on individuals. You can keep them both for me.

One other thing

09.04.2010 20:05

The OPs assertion that McLaren 'created' the Sex Pistols is patently shite, as most people who haven't been living with their head in a bucket for the last 30 years already knew.

McLaren was the 1st to bring hip-hop into the UK music scene

09.04.2010 23:29

McLaren was also an innovative artist in his own right. As a musical arranger, he was the first to delve into and introduce to the UK music-listening public hip hop in 1983 with 2 hit singles which were essentially hip-hop tunes, part of his groundbreaking album Duck Rock (and not the sort of hip-hop garbage obsessed with guns, "bitches" and bling, usually associated with the genre)

pistols fan, for my sins...

Slacker, you mean to say that mclaren DIDN'T create the pistols?

Anyone who hasn't had their head stuffed up their arse for the past 34years knows that he did.
