20 days prison for a white 'peace' flag

03.07.2010 16:53

judge nicholas evans, well known for his distaste for protest in parliament square, has just given democracy village activist simon moore a prison sentence of 20 days for contempt of court after simon entered court with a white 'peace' flag.

a third person has been given a seven day sentence for refusing to pay £40 fine for obstruction. this follows similar sentences for two women sent to holloway for their part in the sit-down protests yesterday.

non-violence

@narchist
I think it's more likely that rikki was suggesting there might be some extra sympathy for someone dedicated to non-violence, whether we agree with that or not.

Why is defendant Chris Coverdale from Democracy Village with Weapons firm?

03.07.2010 19:19

It is still beyond my comprehension why Chris Coverdale of 'Make War History' submits a paper to the Institute for Public Policy Research, backed by major weapons manufacturer Raytheon.

Which prison?

03.07.2010 19:43

Has Simon gone to Pentonville? Brixton? Are the prisoner numbers known yet?

Any more details about the third person to receive a seven day sentence? Male or female? Where have they been sent?

Four jailed

04.07.2010 08:58

Four Democracy Villagers were reportedly jailed yesterday (Saturday 3 July) by District Judge Nicholas Evans at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court, London.

Simon was handed a 20-day sentence for ‘contempt of court’ - displaying a peace banner in the courtroom - to be served at HMP Wandsworth in south London, whilst three others were each given 7-day sentences in lieu of fines for highway obstruction during Friday's sit-down protests outside Parliament and Downing Street. Anita and at least one other woman are serving their time at HMP Holloway in north London. The whereabouts of the fourth person are unclear at present.

Other people arrested during Friday’s protests were offered cautions or accepted fines.

Jailing dv residents is one step too far

05.07.2010 06:33

the gov have taken this one step too far.

some have suggested an eco village outside the prisons concerned. wandsworth common is on the doorstep.

some have suggested blasting them with some freeman truth. none of the judges are on their oaths for victimless crimes.

thanks and have a great day.

simon, a seasoned peace campaigner, and one of the most peaceful tolerant people i know, has been jailed for 20 days for contempt of court for taking a peace flag in with him. Anita and Katie, more lovely peaceful people than you could hope to meet, have been jailed for 7 days for obstruction of parliament.

this is totally unacceptable in a so-called democracy. the government and army can kill hundreds of thousands in illegal w*rs yet men and women who peacefully stand up to them are jailed.

this shows how inherently weak the system is because it relies on overwhelming force, intimidation and draconian deterrents. true power will always overcome force, everytime.

afaik no judges are operating on their oaths because no one knows or dares to ask. see youtube - anti terrorist - standing in court (transcript on his website.

i've seen this used 7 times now and it's been done many more. afaik no judge has confirmed that he's operating on his oath for a victimless crime, and has preferred to leave the court rather than answer. keep doing it and they give up. with civil matters it's more difficult as there's no requirement to appear and judgements are made in your absence, sometimes even before you go to court!

it's pure money making and control.

Peace, Love, Compassion, Acceptance, Forgiveness and Abundance to all beings - Yes even the oppressors, else nothing will change. they are like they are because of a lack of love as children.

Peace
