Coming Soon from Freedom Press

Feebledom Press | 14.09.2010 11:12

Hot on the heels of ‘Beating The Fascists’, Red Action’s version of the history of Anti-Fascist Action (see  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2010/05/452031.html?c=on), which Freedom Press will shortly be publishing at a cost of £10,000, comes ‘Shoot Them Like Patridges: Why I Had to Crush the Kronstadt Mutiny’ by Leon Trotsky.

Freedom Press are proud to announce that we will be continuing our ‘Let’s Give the Marxists a Leg-Up‘ campaign. ‘Shoot Them Like Partridges’ tells the story of a heroic young commissar and his fearless battle to crush some uppity workers. Written by someone who was actively involved, unusually for us, ‘Shoot Them Like Partridges’ carries the author’s name on the cover. It is an authentic piece of social history, as we like to put it, and fully authorised by our new political allies. We’re happy to use anarchist cash to publish it and will add it to our impressive collection of loft insulation at Freedom Books.

To accompany Commissar Trotsky’s book, we’ll be launching a commemorative ‘Hello Sailor!’ T-shirt. Inspired by the blood lost by the Red Army as they were machine-gunned in the back, and by our recent political direction, the T-shirt features scarlet lettering on a bright red T-shirt as well as a Kevlar back-panel. All profits from the sale of the T-shirt will go to the Pissed & Dribbling Home for Old Red Action Members. Please be generous - we have been.

Other forthcoming titles from Freedom Press include ‘Chairman Mao - He Wasn’t All Bad’, ‘A Fresh Look at Stalin’, ‘Fidel Castro – Unsung Anarchist Hero’, ‘Let’s All Vote IWCA’, and ‘Peter Kropotkin – What a Bastard!’

For more information on our ‘Red Rabble’ range contact  shop@freedompress.org.uk or just call in the bookshop (if we’re not open we’ll be in the pub next door swooning over some elderly skinheads).

NB If there are any other members of the Freedom Collective reading this, don’t worry I’ve got it all sorted, and we can always have a vote on it later. And if you don’t like it you can always leave.

[MODS DELETE THIS]Excellent attempt at humour, even has pictures and everything!

This is getting deleted as it is simply false. Its got about half a day at most.

But on to what you are saying.

There are a very small number of people who object to the publishing of Red Actions biography of Anti Fascist Action, but they have been very vocal about their position. Beyond "red action are marxists" there aren't any salient argumanets against publishing the book. Anarchists happily participated in AFA, not just in the areas where Red Action where less dominant but everywhere; AFA is considered to have been a joint project, and there have already been several anarchist accounts of AFA; having RA's account makes perfect sense.

Should an anarchist publisher publish it?

Yes. Have a f*cking look at the other stuff we have published, please. Pacisfist tomes like "uprooting war" or the collection of photographs "orwell at home" - then look at the things we stock, or thatAK press (or closest relative) stock: the broadness of anarchist interest ranges from insurrectionary feminism to pacifistic marxism. There is far FAR more in common between class struggle anarchists and RA, a group that have always been in the same camp in terms of direct action, mass movements, community politics, and class struggle over student-elite lead "issue" politics - then we have in common with much of what comes under 'anarchism'.

You can't separate this from the circumstances. This isn't some unknown, unrelated left group asking for us to pay hand over fist to publish a stalinist manifesto, its the main instigators of AFA. We should be happy they have approached us; certainly most of the Freedom Collective are. And yes, its been discussed and voted on.

commemarative mugs?

Any commemorative mugs celebrating the execution of typhus suffering Ukrainian anarchist comrades once they'd passed their usefulness? Make a great popup book ( or colouring book - with free red crayon ).

Political wavering

14.09.2010 13:39

It can be a real problem when members of anarchist groups change their political allegiances, particularly when the changes are quite subtle. I've seen it happen a few times over the years. When I was in DAM years ago we had a bloke who joined whn had been in the Labour Party, which he eventually rejoined, but in the meantime he caused us all sorts of problems.

Not sure we should be laughing but...

14.09.2010 14:24

...funny post. My take on the red action/afa book is that it will continue the work of that other red action/afa book in side-lining anarchists.

I agree with the comment saying you should join Red Action. What is an obvious trot like you doing working at Freedom? Red Action are a quasi-Stalinist sect - state/authoritarian socialist, pro-Nationalist, and not in the least bit libertarian - 2 of their members set off a bomb on Kensington High St - You appear to know nothing about them. And this is not about what Freedom bookshop STOCKS it's about what Freedom Press are spending £10,000 PUBLISHING.

Marxism

14.09.2010 16:13

Can I suggest that 'Bill Stickers' educate himself about Marxism. He might start with G P Maximoff's 'The Guillotine at Work', which at one time he would have been able to find at Freedom Books.
