Cambridge Help page

  • Indymedia Cambridge is built around the idea of Open Publishing, that means that anyone can contribute news items, pictures, audio or video about issues of social and political importance. These items appear on the newswire, on the right hand side column of the main page and are also archived.
  • To publish your item, either go to the publishing page, or click on the `PUBLISH YOUR NEWS' button on the top right of the front page. If you want more technical information about publishing then try the IMC UK help page.
  • To maintain the focus of the site members of the collective behind Indymedia Cambridge are monitoring the newswire and making sure that articles are within the broad editorial guidelines of the site. Posts about recent news, events and social issues are welcome. Indymedia Cambridge does not welcome posts that are discriminatory, repeated (on the same newswire), wildly inaccurate or commercial advertising.
  • The point of Indymedia Cambridge is to allow anyone to report news that are important to them. This can be done directly, in the language we use everyday, and free from the forms and biases imposed by the corporate or state media.

At the same time do not neglect to include the important facts in your story so that others can fully benefit from it. A quick check that you have answered the WHAT? WHO? WHERE? WHEN? questions will ensure this. Web links can also be included in your articles, simply by writing them in as text, to point to further resources.

Beyond these simple questions you might find the following guides helpful:

    - Video Activist Network - Manuals on video and other media.
    - Paper Tiger TV - Lots of resources.
    - Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting - How to fight media bias.
    - An Activists' Guide to Exploiting the Media
  • Remember that all contributions and comments to the site are public. Furthermore all contributions are assumed to be copyleft, unless otherwise specified in the the article. Offering contact details is optional, but can be useful if readers want more information, or higher resolution media. You are still advised to use an email address that does not trivially give away your physical identity.
  • Beyond simply administering the web site Indymedia Cambridge also runs training events, organizes video nights and produces stories and material. You can have a look at our mission statement, and our principles of unity. The Indymedia Cambridge collective is run democratically and is open to anyone that is happy to work within our principles of unity. Find out about our weekly meetings or, for any other information, feel free to contact imc-cambridge@lists.indymedia.org
