This event has been organized by the B’ham Stop the war Coalition and Amal Press, and the aim of this evening is to try and understand what is really going on, and what roles we have to play as human beings and citizens of the world. It is taking place to launch an anthology of the same title.
In a world of such extreme violence, hypocrisy and moral ambiguity, we need to be careful about whom we listen to, whom we believe, and whose wars we fight.
We need to turn off the TV and study the problems and possibilities confronting us, and begin debating what to do about them. If we all fail to understand the causes of this hate, this will only exacerbate and replicate the threatening conditions that not afflict us.
This conference has been organised to foster understanding and to analyse the situational crisis that the worlds is currently engulfed within. It questions the thesis of a clash of civilisation and attempts to understand some of the basis for Islamic fundamentalism.
Speakers include, George Galloway, Zaid Shakir (US)Salma Yaqqob (Stop the War coalition) and others. There will be an exclusive video message from George Monbiot, who will address this conference via video message. We are still waiting to see if Tony Benn can confirm.
