For fucks sake! A swastika on the Israeli flag, that's sick! And religious fanatics on demos, whether Jewish orthodox or Muslim fundametalist. No thanks! The original Zionists were socialists and social revolutionaries, who manged to live together in relative peace with the arab inhabitants. During the international Zionist congress in 1944 that there was a jump to the right and a surge in nationalist feeling and in light of the holocaust it's hardly surprising. Unfortunataly the state of Israel is now dominated by ultra-nationalists and orthodox settlers who jumped on the band wagon(the latter being mainly from the USA and western Europe). Israel has been constantly under threat and has had to fight for its survival and in a world consisting of nation states has a right to do so. The main problem is the agressive politics of a minority who are presently in power and have militarised the country. The majority of Israelis want peace and the left is often overlooked, for example the 250.000 strong demo in Tel Aviv against the occupation of the Gaza strip today (19.05). Instead of attacking Isreal and Antisemitic groups, we should be supporting the Israeli left against the present government and the right-wing Zionist fanatics. Despite the government, army and ultra-orthodox fanatics, Israel is far more progressive than the Palistinian society. Look at how women, homosexuells etc. are treated and the rabid Antisemtism. Down with the wall/fence, but also down with Anitisemitism.
