fascist EDL in Manchester today - what's happening on the streets

@nti-fa | 10.10.2009 11:28 | Anti-racism

Not too much so far, lots of pawns moving about on a chess board without a plan...

Groups of fascists are arriving by train at Piccadilly and Salford stations certainly; those spotted at Picc are pushed by the cops through a couple of metal detecting arches. There's loads and loads of cops there, also lining most main thoroughfares, and patrolling in groups on foot, and in vehicles, with horses and dogs and Tactical Aid Units (riot cops) everywhere, especially round the Gay Village and the Northern Quarter (lots of Asian businesses there). Some stopping people, fash and anti-fash, searching sometimes videoing at same time.

There's groups of anti-fash been gathering at various places, but without a real plan or much room to manoeuvre, now some marching in too to UAF midday rally in Piccadilly Gardens. The fash are meant to be meeting in a pub on the north side of the Gardens, the Weatherspoons, but some also going in nearby pubs, waiting to come out to play at 5 in the Gardens where they have permission for a static demo.

Rumours of fash set-down or pick-up points, but nothing so far...

Peaceful protest?

10.10.2009 12:47

The EDL's first foray in 'peaceful protest' staged Luton turned into a riot with cars businesses and innocent members of the public being attacked and assaulted by them. The second attempt at peaceful protest incited violence after EDL members racially abused sections of the community.

There is no 'march' there is a static demonstration.

Ban the EDL.

Indeed, ignore the neo-nazi trolls.

The trolls should return to Stormponce, leaving genuine anti-racist peeps to post actual updates of the action.

Troll Flusha!

Unlawful section 60 arrest?

10.10.2009 17:48

A lad got nicked today for not not taking off a mask (under section 60, i think) but the copper didn't give him chance to take it off.

She was on (number 9002) horse back and came right up to us and asked the lad to take off his mask he refused and asked under what law and she said section 560 and that had him nicked by some others on foot.

She didn't give him enough time to remove his mask after telling him about the section 60, surely this is an unlawful arrest?

Does anyone know anything about him?

He seemed pretty young and i feel bad for him

a victory?

11.10.2009 11:30

Yesterday during the demo in piccadilly gardens there were several scuffles between the anti-fash and the EDL in the streets around the gardens, although the police kept the main groups apart they did not do a great job of keeping the smaller groups apart which was fortunate for us as these scuffles usualy ended in the nazi thugs routing. What is truly worrying were the edl numbers which have swollen drastically,i was also enraged by uaf stewards grassing "potential trouble makers" to the police this is shameful behaviour, you know who you are. the edl were vastly outnumberd and took a beating! on the whole a victory for anti-fash

UAF Grassing scum

11.10.2009 12:12

Indeed, a good turn out by our mob. I was pulled early on by the police. details taken and given section 28 to leave city centre. needless to say I somehow go back in. But this was made even more difficult by the UAF Stewards. Who grassed me in to police. And where seen grassing up many members and organizers of the alternative demo. This is not on, and will not be tolerated.
grassing scum.

feckin liberals

11.10.2009 12:19

people need to drop the liberal bullshit view that "everyone is entitled to their opinion". The world is not formed based on idealistic views and notions of "rights". If we wish to see a world where we are free from exploitation, alienation and oppression we are going to have to deny the "rights" and "entitlements" of fascists.

uaf stewards

11.10.2009 18:55

where a pain in the arse. i thought they where there to look after the protesters not grass them in to the filth.

some right little hitlers on the police lines, short arse woman on horse back fer instance most there will be quite aware who she was anyone get her number?

watched police use horses to crush people against buildings and when asking people to disperse one way they would then send horses towards the people preventing them from doing so.

re- UAF Grassing scum

12.10.2009 01:21

What did you expect from an organisation led by trots and SWPers??

These are, after all, the arseholes who made sure you can't protest the war in Iraq without being associated with terrorists - which is exactly what the government wanted! And now - what a surprise! they're once again "conveniently" trying to make sure that the movement they've muscled into fails spectacularly.

Got to stop relying on these centralised, far left dominated front groups - get some independant, autonomous anti-fascist stuff happening, that's how come we've managed to keep the scum bags out of Bristol, certainly not by relying on the likes of Ken Livingstone and his SWP mates.

thinkie

UAF Grasses

12.10.2009 08:36

The behaviour of the UAF stewards is exactly what you would expect from the SWP. THey have fulfilled exactly the same role since the 1970's. They are absolute scum and people really shouldn't be tricked into joining them. In future I'd suggest giving one of the bastards a serious kicking to set an example.

THE SWP are scum.
