There are 5 companies after the contract for Kingsnorth. However if they get enough hassle for chasing the contract then they won’t bother anymore, it also a great way to show them what they are in for if they do get the contract. We must be relentless in our campaign as we are fighting for all life current and future.

Nuclear Power Trashing the Climate

marianne birkby, 15-08-2009 12:42

The Joker
Nuclear Power produces EMISSIONS MUCH MORE POWERFUL THAN CO2 - not to mention nearly 500,000 tonnes of Co2 last year from Sellafield's gas plant. The barrage of pro nuke propaganda is aiming to bounce the country into nuclear new build. MP for Copeland Jamie Reed has been handsomely rewarded for consistently lying to Parliament about "homegrown, climate friendly and safe" nuclear power.

Poet who blew whistle on Sellafield dies.

marianne birkby, 23-07-2009 21:13

Duncan Ball outside Sellafield during Peace Vigil of 2007
Talented poet and former nuclear foreman Duncan Ball died on July 17th aged 49. He was a man who tried repeatedly to blow the whistle on unsafe practices in the Magnox plant at Sellafield where he was employed as a foreman. His subsequent experience followed the same route as the dissident scientists who were sacked from Sellafield after expressing doubts about nuclearsafety in the 70’s (NEW STATESMAN July 1983)

Shock and Awe tactics along with Bribery used by Nuclear Industry in Cumbria

marianne birkby, 03-04-2009 13:59

The nuclear industry appear to be using the same tactics as George Bush’s
‘shock and awe.'
Three possible sites have been put forward for nuclear new build in
Cumbria. One is Sellafield, which is described by the industry as ‘least
preferred’ because of the decommissioning work. The other two sites of
Kirksanton and Braystones are greenfield and include areas of European
wildlife importance. Read more >>

23rd November issue of Manchester Climate Fortnightly out

McFly, 23-11-2008 21:29

Manchester Climate Fortnightly is a newsletter published by a small collective in Manchester, covering all subjects related to climate change in the Northwest of England (and a few places beyond...)
Below are some samples articles from the November 23rd issue. The rest of the newsletter, and previous editions, are available for download via the following link-
www.manchesterclimatefortnightly.info. You can also subscribe by emailing info [at] manchesterclimatefortnightly.info with "subscribe" in the header

We lead with the story that although Manchester City Council has stated it aims for Manchester to be Britain's greenest by 2010, it has actually slipped further down in the annual rankings of Forum for the Future (these rankings are under review, but a great leap forwards for our sunny city
would be a surprise...)

Our second story is on the “Climate Change Foundation”, a proposal that has so far received scant coverage in the mainstream press.

All the usual features are here too-
a Calendar bursting with events, including Sat 29th's Chomsky at 80, www.chomskyat80.org.uk
a Digest of local, national and global news (with more on the website)
Campaign updates “Read All About it” and other goodies. Read more >>
