Victoria Square in Birmingham yesterday was packed full of veggie goodness!

On Saturday May 16th Birmingham saw the UK's first Veggie Pride event and we're pleased to report that it was a huge success thanks to the amazing efforts of grassroots campaigning group Midlands Vegan Campaigns (MVC). Read more about them at  http://www.veganmidlands.org.uk.

Despite truly horrible weather at times the MVC volunteers put on an superb show with speakers, stalls, bands and loads of other entertainment, all celebrating a cruelty free lifestyle and reinforcing the message that stopping eating animal products is good for people, animals and the environment.

The main event of the day was the vibrant Veggie Pride Parade around the city centre streets led by the uplifting beat of the Bloco Louco samba band that kept everyone smiling and dancing in the rain! Some locals joined the march and were drawn back to the square to learn more about the veggie lifestyle and join in the fun.

Back in the square it was great to see so many people enjoying the delicious vegan food and listening to speakers and bands. There was a constant stream of locals through the square and many of them stopped to listen and browse the stalls.

Thanks again to MVC for putting on such a great day of vegan advocacy. We can't wait till next year!

Very Fun

It was a very fun day.

I just cannot decide wether it was productive or not?

It can be both!

In response to Dave, yes it was fun, but even a fun event can be productive too!

We gave out loads of leaflets on the march and lots of shoppers browsed the stalls etc. That's got to be good.

Also, it's up to us all to make the most of events like this. We will make more effort to have a banner next year for example and make the march even more visual.

We're also going to do a press release to our local media along the lines of "Members of Wrexham Veggies attended the UK's first ever Veggie Pride event ..." and making all the points about why animal free is best.

I hope there's another one next year! I couldn't go this time due to distance and having other things on. Looks wicked though- really positive vegan advocacy.

What a result!

I went to Veggie Pride with a couple of friends and we had an excellent day. There were some interesting talks and the vegan food was delicious. By the way my friends are omnivores and they also enjoyed the day. One of them has now decided to try a vegetarian diet - that's a result! This event is really positive direct action for the animals :-)
