Power lines cut in yorkshire

Yorkshire today is reporting that power lines in West Yorkshire have been cut over night and police and attempting to make a connection between the the incident, a blockade at Hartlepool Power Plant and the Camp for Climate action...

Hartlepool Power Station
Here are photos from the blockade of Hartlepool Nuclear Power Station which took place from 8am Tuesday 29th August and lasted till 6pm, when the last of the protesters were finally cut out ten hours later. The action took place as part of the Camp For Climate Action. There were twenty arrests but all were later released on police bail but currently without charge.

Climate Camp Police Visit

Police was allowed this morning into the Climate Action Camp, after they threatened yesterday to enter by force if they were not allowed to do so. After more than 24 hours of negotiations, it was decided to allow them in and walk around the camp, whilst being escorted by legal observers and activist media.

We are calling for all people who can to arrive in Leeds from Monday August 21 and head to the Common Place, 23-25 Wharf Street, Leeds LS2 7EQ. This is to build all the infrastructure ready to occupy the site. This is a mammoth task and the more people we have the more infrastructure is ready when we occupy the site and the less has to be built there. No DIY knowledge is needed as the highly skilled site practicalities group will be there to make sure everything goes smoothly!

Mind the Gap... world energy crisis approaches, dire consequences for planet

Last year, for the first time since 1992, the UK became a net importer of crude oil as a result of terminal decline of the North Sea oil and gas fields. The British government doesn't appear to worried yet and apparently thinks the country can simply buy the energy it needs so quite some time to come. "The government consider that the world's oil resources are sufficient to prevent global total oil production peaking before 2030," said energy minister Malcolm Wicks earlier this month. Wicks said that the Government are already putting in place policies that will "help ease the UK economy away from power supplied primarily through fossil fuels" - probably a reference to the recent energy review and the U turn on nuclear power.

Manchester cyclists occupy the city in carnival protest against the G8.

Yesterday evening Manchester cyclists held a protest bicycle carnival in solidarity with anti G8 protesters in Russia. This was part of a global protest against the G8 meeting in Moscow this weekend called for by the Peoples Global Action (PGA). The 3 main themes of the G8 summit this year are Energy security, education and aids/health care.
