Airport expansion halted!

27-06-2009 19:48

As an act of direct action training, to empower and equip festivalgoers at Glastonbury who have had no previous contact with direct action or groups that actively campaign for a better future in the face of climate chaos, the outrageous plans of expansion to a third runway of Greenpeace International Airport were halted today by a handful of members of the public who formed an affinity group in a short space of time and locked on to prevent the demolition of a locally organised recreation of Sipson village.

Return of the Luddites

18-04-2009 08:41

In fifteen months at the beginning of the second decade of the 19th century a movement of craft workers and their supporters declared war on the then emerging industrial society. The movement spread across the Northern counties of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. It smashed thousands of machines, looted markets, burned down factories and spread hope of a way out of the bleak future being offered by state and industries. It was a movement that, in the words of the late radical historian E.P. Thompson; "in sheer insurrectionary fury has rarely been more widespread in English History,".

Towards the end of the first decade of the 21st century nearly 200 years later, a new age of Luddites return with an insurrection in México. Over a hundred phone booths of multinational exploiter and bullfight sponser Telmex have been sabotaged using cutters, paint, glue and fire. The Luddites are showing resistance to anthropocentrism (human supremacy), civilization and the domestication of wild nature, using radical methods of sabotage for animal and earth liberation.

Jungle Zoo and Great British Circus get Easter protests; zoo manager arrested

13-04-2009 19:26

Protests hit the Jungle Zoo in Cleethorpes and the Great British Circus in Grimsby on Sunday 12 April. The Jungle Zoo is about the worst kind of dump that passes legal muster, while the Great British Circus makes its wild animals perform unnatural tricks for the gawping public. Campaigns are active against both. A trail of protests is following the Great British Circus around on tour, and the Jungle Zoo's manager was arrested following an incident during the protest that was caught on video.

The not-so-Great British Circus hit by protest again

16-03-2009 21:12

Protesters from around the north of England gathered in Scunthorpe on Sunday 15 March to voice their opposition to the Great British Circus and its enslavement of wild animals. There is no chance of anything resembling a natural life for the elephants, lions, tigers, and others paraded around by the circus, which has finished its run in Scunthorpe and is now moving on to Louth, Skegness, and beyond. Protests have been following it every step of the way.
