Otterspool Promenade Under Threat Again

On 28 September Liverpool Council plan to give-away a stretch of public open
space along Otterspool Promenade. This is part of the tree lined grass
embankment that runs along the coast from the Britannia Inn for about 1/2
mile between the Garden Festival site and the Promenade walkway. The
Executive Board meet at Millennium House at 9am next Friday 28th September
to approve the disposal and to include the land in the lease agreement with
Langtree McLean for their Festival Gardens development. Read more >>

What Does Democracy Really Mean In Preston?

A Preston councillor has asked questions about the democracy of decision making about key decisions affecting the future of Preston's Town Centre, and of the ecology of the River Ribble - but what does democracy really mean in Preston, when council officials, directly involved in the decisions affecting our future, are leaving our town like rats leaving a sinking ship? Liverpool Council Plans Dual Carriageway On Festival Site

As you have probably heard by now the council are planning to build a 4-6 lane dual carriageway along Riverside Drive and Jericho Lane, joining to Sefton Street. There were hints about this in the Planning Officer's Report re. the garden festival site, which we picked up on but we didn't realise it would be so soon - they will have barely created the Japanese Garden before they have to tear it down or move it over. Liverpool: Peak Oil and Climate Change event

Liverpool Permaculture Society are trying to raise awareness around the issues of Peak Oil & Climate Change & to promote organised community response & planned Energy Descent in the face of these challenges. We need to take power back to our communities, decentralise & become as self sufficient as possible to have the best chance of dealing with this crisis. Burying our heads in the sand & relying on central government & big business to save us leaves us powerless & vulnerable. Read more >>

Preston Council's Crazy Plans To Barrage Ribble: One Step Closer to The Brink

The Riverworks Barrage across the River Ribble is one step closer to reality today after Preston City Council decided, against the advice of local people and environmentalists, to apply to the North West Development Agency for funds for a feasibility study into their plans to build a barrage across the Ribble and 4000 homes and businesses in it's floodplain - plans that would threaten the precious environment of the Ribble Estuary and raise the flood risk to local residents.
