Pauline Campbell 1948-2008

Guido, 15-05-2008 16:08

It is with great sadness that I report the death of Pauline Campbell whose body was found at the grave of her daughter Sarah this morning. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, both activists and journalists alike. She fought for years for the rights of those whom the government and society would try to forget. She was never afraid to put herself in the firing line and to this effect she was arrested 15 times though the state never succeeded in prosecuting her. To see her courageous action and eloquent speeches it was easy to forget that she fought a daily battle with her grief at losing her only daughter. Something she never really recovered from.

She leaves behind a proud legacy of tireless campaigning and direct action. Rest in peace Pauline. You will be remembered with great pride and affection by all of us who had the honour of knowing you.

All charges against Pauline Campbell dropped (again).

Guido, 11-05-2008 12:01

All...
In a desperate bid to avoid a PR disaster of catastrophic proportions, the Crown Prosecution Service has wisely decided that prosecuting Pauline Campbell for her last action at HMP Styal would ‘not be in the public interest’. Which is CPSspeak for: ‘Giving a public platform (courtroom) to a bereaved mother, thus enabling her to make hugely embarrassing facts about Styal Prison known to everyone would really piss the government off’. So yet again Pauline is free to continue her campaign of direct action against those institutions which fail in their duty of care to their inmates. For a full report about what happened the last time Pauline was nicked click here:

Pauline Campbell arrested at HMP Styal

Guido, 18-02-2008 14:35

Another death, another demonstration.
On January 23rd Lisa Marley aged 32 died in the ‘care’ of HMP Styal in Cheshire. On February 5th veteran campaigner Pauline Campbell brought her unique form of protest to the prison and was promptly arrested for the fifteenth time. Lisa was the sixth woman to die inside the walls of Styal since the death of Pauline’s daughter Sarah in 2003. She was the forty-first woman to die across England and Wales since that time.

Re Secretary of State for Health Alan Johnson's release on water fluoridation

Doug Cross and Liz Vaughan, 06-02-2008 19:59

The DoH refuses to acknowledge extensive evidence that the side effects of fluoridation can be so severe that, were it to be classified as a medicinal product (as EC law demands) then it would instantly be withdrawn from the market. In attempting to remedy a small number of defects in a few children's teeth, this 'remedy' will actually cause damage to all of the teeth of half of the children drinking this quack medicne. Liverpool Vigil To Support Freedom Of Protest

Katy, 20-12-2007 17:01

There is a candlelit demo on Saturday 22nd at Cricket, Mathew Street 1-3pm in support of animal welfare and human rights/civil liberties, in particular to support a fellow activist from Bolton who was recently found guilty of section 5 for photographing police officers for evidence gathering purposes during an incident at Cricket and fined £500. What happened to me this week only further strengthens the need for as many people as possible to attend and stand up against the oppressive behaviour of the police who seem hellbent on stifling legal protest. I really feel that this campaign is becoming as much about defending what little right to protest we are still 'allowed' as much as Cricket selling fur. It would be great if people could bring placards highlighting the human rights aspect of the demo. Read more | 3 comments >>
