G8 Environment ministers Meeting at Derby Piccys Pt1

G8 Environment ministers Meeting at Derby Piccys Pt1

In advance of the main G8 meeting at Gleneagles, there are a number of mini-meetings. This one was for Environment & development ministers meeting at Breadsall Priory Hotel, a few miles north of Derby. However, demonstrations, outside of a market area, within the City of Derby, were banned.

For your interests, these links are about 'public concern' and disruption advice.

 http://www.derbyshire.police.uk/7.html

 http://www.derbyshire.police.uk/news/642.html

 http://www.derbyshire.police.uk/news/641.html

and at this one, you can download a copy of the Public Order Act 1986, Sections 13 & 14. These orders having been applied for because of the 'serious threats' to public disorder

 http://www.derbyshire.police.uk/news/644.html

These sections, together with the help of the Crime and Disorder Act 2003, now define an assembly as TWO OR PERSONS.

BLOODY HECK !!

On arriving in Derby by train, a legitimate protester would have been confronted with this as a sight!

Now, call me cynical if you like, but do you not think that this lot are stood there to intimidate people? Or, do you accept, as they had explained to me, that they were there, dressed as they were, to deal with 'dissident groups' who may want to spoil the day, for legitimate protestors.

You decide !!

(With the posing going on here, I thought it possible it was a fashion show. Next week, they're doing rubber, and perhaps swim-ware the week after).

UK Indymedia 2005 Shakedown ‘05 - Nottingham G8
Shakedown ‘05 will brought together the diversity of Nottingham’s cultural life (live bands, DJs, visual artists, performance artists) at this very big one-off non-profit DIY all-night event that tries to bring together as large a variety of people, music and arts as possible. Fundraiser.

UK Indymedia 2005 Nottingham Critical Mass Bike-About
On Tuesday 15th Feb, around 30 cyclists gathered at about 3pm in Nottingham for a critical mass ride with the theme of 'no more blood for oil' and 'no G8 2005'
We cycled round for around two hours and fun was had by all.
It is hoped to make the critcal mass a regular monthly event so watch this space for news.

UK Indymedia 2004 Nottingham Colwick 'Oil' Demonstration - Blockade
'G8 Blockade' This was Nottingham's contribution to these matters, by taking direct action to blocade the Oil Terminal at Colwick. After erecting the tripod, there were a few instances of threats of violence, by lorry drivers and others, inconvenienced by the blockade. But all turned out well

Bloody Heck Indeed!!

19.03.2005 09:20

What a crazy set of photos - Robocops indeed!

good pics

Odd

19.03.2005 09:57

I see you spotted Charles Clarke doing a bit of moonlighting.

2 things.

1) Merseyside Police in Derby. Is that ususal?

2) Quite clearly posturing. The men in the front have all the gear on, those behind have items of protection missing especially on the arms.

In any case they look fucking ridiculous.

Repetitive pictures...

19.03.2005 10:22

Interesting to see the new robocop outfits from merseyside, but why so many almost identical pictures. Must be very frustrating if you're not on broadband.
Edit please.

20 seconds to comply....

19.03.2005 11:04

Oh what great pictures. Dont they look funny, and more than a bit uncomfortable in their party gear!!

I just hope they dont have some crazy gun secreted in thier thighs like the real robo!

Q. What's this going to do for 'Community Policing'?!

19.03.2005 11:29

1000's of corporate robo-cops dressed provocatively like that posturing on camera ain't gonna do much for community policing - whatever that is anyway. It's bad enough as it is without this macho standoff with the public.

Wonder how the longterm effects of dis-proportionally policing public order situations like this are gonna affect the public's perception of the police and the state in Scotland after the G8?

Can't see anyone in Scotland warming to this or falling for the divide and rule strategy they've got planned between protestors and the public. It already seems policing of the G8 will irreversibly damage community relations in the UK.

2005s policing of the G8 will herald the dawn of a sinister police state in the UK.

You cannae run nor hide in that gettup!

More from Merseyside

More from Merseyside

Seeing this lot, I'm reminded of the `Reclaim the Future’, demo/party, Liverpool, in Sep 96.
It was a Reclaim the Streets do, in support of the Liverpool Dockers.

We've all see public order protection dress, but Merseyside it appears, has always been ahead in the fashion stakes. Dr Who starts again this week, bring back the Cybermen.
