Who got scared by Killer Coke then?

Gulliver | 28.02.2006 15:31 | Globalisation | Repression

Where's the Coke gone them?

Looking forward to a half hour away from the computer last night I settled myself into my arm chair in front of the TV with a cold drink (and before you ask, no it wasn't). Imagine my disappointment when the program I had planned to watch, Tonight with Trevor MacDonald, was introduced by the announcer with the words 'in place of tonight's scheduled programme we will be looking at the health risks of drinking wine'. So, does anybody know why, at the last minute, they pulled the scheduled programme which was to have been about Coca Cola and its dodgy activities around the world?

Coke Campaign on Tonight with Trevor McDonald Monday at 8pm

On Monday, February 27, 2006 from 8-8:30 pm, the UK’s most watched current affairs program, “Tonight with Trevor McDonald” will be doing a half hour program on ITV1 about issues surrounding Killer Coke (The Coca-Cola Co.). The program will cover certain aspects of Coca-Cola, including human rights abuse allegations at its plants in Colombia.

Everyone in the UK concerned with this issue should try to watch the show and then write into the program to either commend them or add information about where they went wrong. Use the feedback form  http://www.itv.com/page.asp?partid=1215

I've just contacted ITV and this is their response:

Thank you for your e-mail.

The programme was held up because of a technical problem. It will be transmitted next Monday.

Yours sincerely

Comments: Dear Madam/Sir,

On Monday, February 27, 2006 from 8-8:30 pm, the program, "Tonight with Trevor McDonald" was going to do a half hour program about issues surrounding Coca-Cola. The program was going to cover certain aspects of Coca-Cola, including human rights abuse allegations at its plants in
Colombia.

This item was allegedly 'rescheduled' at the last minute. Could you explain the reasons why the broadcast was changed? Is the item scheduled for another time and if so, when?

Many Thanks,

James Slater
