Children of Britain! Don't 'Shell' Your Souls

Sam | 21.04.2006 15:31 | Culture | London

A chance for our children to show that their creativity won't be bought by corrupt corporations.

On July 13 the national theatre will host its annual NT Connections young theatre festival, it has for the last few years been sponsored by Shell and entitled Shell Connections.
It is really important that such a forum exists for youth theatre, but this event will be a chance for the children of london and indeed great britain, that they will not be seduced by corrupt corporate support.
I propose a giant creative youth protest in and around the national theatre and outside the shell headquarters, where we can encourage children from london schools and any other schools wishing to attend to devise or perform their own pieces of theatre or protest, in an expression of creative independence, and rejection of such a cheap ploy to bribe young imaginations.

any suggestions? please post after this article and leave contact details if you are thinking about devising somthing.

Many Thanks

Sam

LRT & Art Not Oil

23.04.2006 13:50

Shell Hell
Shell Hell

Art Not Oil is a project that has been taking aim at corporate sponsorship of the arts for three years now, and has also been doing some work in schools. Art Not Oil is a project of London Rising Tide which meets every Thursday in London – this coming Thursday, April 27th, happens to be a special meeting for people to come along and find out more about the group and what we get up to. If people fancy discussing the Shell-sponsored NT Connections festival and what we might be able to cook up against it, why not come along to the meeting next week? (7 PM, London Action Resource Centre, 62 Fieldgate Street, E1. Nearest tube is Whitechapel).

More on Art Not Oil and London Rising Tide
Art Not Oil is an exhibition and a campaign, committed to showing powerful political/ecological art, to seeing an end to oil sponsorship of the arts, and to helping build movements for climate justice both here and throughout the world.  http://www.artnotoil.org.uk/

London Rising Tide

Come find out more about London Rising Tide* - a grassroots, direct action group fighting against climate change and for a sustainable future! We are holding a special meeting on Thursday 27th April for people to come along and find out more about who we are and what we get up to. The night will be a relaxed affair, with a screening of the brand new 'History of Oil' by Robert Newman, a small meeting agenda and action planning, and nibbles and drink to follow. All welcome, on this Thursday and every Thursday, 7.30pm at LARC (London Action Resource Centre) 62 Fieldgate Street, Whitechapel (Whitechapel or Aldgate East tube).

London Rising Tide has also been taking direct action against Shell over the past few months as part of the campaign against Shell’s proposed gas pipeline and refinery in County Mayo, Ireland.

Come on in, the revolution's lovely!
