Spring Into Action Central Venue Announcement

Spring Into Action | 03.04.2007 16:23 | Climate Camp 2006 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | Free Spaces | Sheffield

The central venue has now been occupied and secured for Spring Into Action! Come down and join in with the preparations!

J. B. Spray factory
J. B. Spray factory

We have now moved in to the central venue, which is the old J. B. Spray & Co. factory on Russell Street, Radford.

Built in 1870, the historic lace mill - a grade 2 listed building - has sat empty for years. While it's not exactly luxurious, it offers a good amount of space for workshops and cooking, plenty of smaller rooms that can be used for sleeping in, and a breathtaking aerial view of the city.

People are now welcome to come down and help out with preparations for the week - there's a fair bit of tidying and construction of facilities to be done over the next few days, so the more the merrier.

Sleeping areas are surprisingly comfy - there are numerous mattresses and smaller rooms available, so anyone staying over (which is encouraged) should be able to get a decent night's kip!

The final planning meeting will be at 8pm at the factory (not at the Sumac) tonight.

See you there!

While there's a lot of work to be done, the Spray is an amazing space with a huge amount of potential.

Don't be freaked out by the bad paintings

04.04.2007 14:30

I'm afraid that particular piece of wall art has been covered over - too many of us just couldn't stand it! There's a lot of bizarrely religious / somewhat sanctimonious paintings in the place, and in all honestly, they are a bit freaky.)

Please don't go thinking that the Spring Into Action people are some kind of religious nutjobs... we're not!

If you ignore the weird paintings, it's a lovely building! (Personally, I'm hoping that someone arty can do better and paint something homely rather than preachy during the course of the week!)
