'Smarter than Yeast” - Sustainability event 3rd Feb

IMC Volunteer | 05.01.2008 10:36 | Sheffield

The date for this is Sunday the 3rd of Feb, from 2-10:30pm. Venue is The Art Organisation, 21 Station Street, Nottingham. The name of the event is 'Smarter than Yeast?' Check out the dictionary definition of yeast and lets hope we can prove we are!

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of Transition Nottingham and to bring together some local groups and individuals with an interest in sustainability and to get some new people interested. Hopefully those that attend will go on to spread the word about Transitions...if we make it inspiring!

Transition Nottingham are supporting this event and organising or supporting other events involving different communities. We hope a series of events will inspire people and get them thinking, talking and acting - who knows what solutions can then be found...

We have speaker on peak oil, blade carving (for wind turbines), free shop, local groups promoting their projects, live music, poetry, storytelling, short films and visuals....

The venue is available in the day and evening. We envisage workshops during the day. Gather everyone together early evening for presentations and films.

There is space on the walls for any art work.

Hope to see you on the 3rd...

Smarter Than Yeast Nottingham - do you want to get involved?

(This is the text of an email received from the organisers - contact details on the attached flyer image.)

We are organising an event on Sunday 3rd February to raise awareness of peak oil and climate change. A key part of this event is also to bring together groups and individuals in Nottingham who are interested in environmental issues.

This is an opportunity for you to promote your projects / interests and meet likeminded people. The day will involve talks on peak oil and Transition Nottingham, food and music, collaborative art work, a free shop and workshops on permaculture and renewables. There will also be information about funding for environmental projects.

We have contacted you because we can see that you're already making a positive impact. We hope that by bringing everyone together we can share ideas, generate new projects and get new people involved.

We want this event to be a collaborative effort - we can provide wall space, slots for presentations, tables for flyers and possibly other resources, let us know what you need and we'll try to help. We hope to have the final programme ready for Friday 25th January so if you want to get involved please let us know by then so we can publicise your involvement. This could be practical workshops, posters, talking to small groups, art work - anything that highlights environmental issues and inspires people!

The event will be held at the Art Organisation on Station Street, next to the tram stop from 2pm - 10.30pm. Feel free to come for any part, or stay all day.

Please find the current programme attached - looking forward to seeing you there!
